Question about Microsoft Wireless Network Adapter Xbox 360 (SKWIFIX360)

1 Answer

(2) xbox 360's in same home; 1 wireless adapter, other ethernet

To all:

I have no luck with this one so far. I have my 360 connected directly from the router to the console, no problems. My son's 360 is in his room and is connected to the network wireless with his 360 wireless adapter. Both connect fine, work fine, ......until we try to join a party together and/or play the same game online together. We can both sign-in to xbox live and play games independent of each other, but we can't play in a same party together. (ie: World at War - we can't join parties and play together.

Please help with any advice.

You need to assign a static ip address to each inside your router they are more than likely using the same ip address

How do I connect my 360 to the internet

Either get the Xbox 360 wireless network adapter for about $65 http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter-Networks/dp/B002RS7NB2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1311544766&sr=1-1 and connect it via wifi.
or just plug in a standard cat5 ethernet cable into the back.

Do u need a wireless adaptor to set up xbox live??

No, a Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter is not required to access, and set up Xbox Live, but you will need an internet connection. If you are close enough to a modem or router, you can buy an Ethernet cord, and plug it in to both the modem/router, and firmly into your Xbox 360 console. You will either need the Xbox 360 Wireless Adapter, or the Ethernet cord. Ethernet cords are very cheaper, much cheaper than a Wireless Adapter, but the Wireless Adapters are much or easier to reason with. So choose wisely with money.

I accidentally kicked the power plug out of my 360 and now the wireless adapter only stays red and won't connect! is it dead? tried restarting the router and modem but, no luck.

its microsoft!!!!!!!!!! bugs galore!!!!!!!! unplug the wireless adapter while the xbox is off.........turn the xbox back on and let it load with the ethernet plugged in...turn the system off using the control after you have established a connection the the network......unplug the ethernet and reinstall the wireless....turn it back on and let it load.....it still might not work in which case you will have to power cycle one more time.........and oh yeah, check in your setting to make sure wireless adapters are activated...

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Xbox broadband connections

If you do not have a router or a switch you will need to take the Ethernet cable that is connected to your broadband modem and directly connect it to your xbox.

Xbox live

2 Solutions-----

Number 1 - If your ethernet cord is going from a modem straight to your 360, then get your modem replaced by your ISP.
This will probobly be free, but if your charged, it will be a small fee.

Number 2 - If you have it going to a routerfrom a modem, then go to your 360 main screen, scroll to the far right 'System' blade, select the 4th choice 'Network Settings', and test your Xbox LIVE Connection. It will ask you to sign out. Select yes.

Results should come up (for wired router)

Network Adapter - Wired
Wireless Network - (Left Blank)
IP Address - Confirmed
DNS - Confirmed
MTU - Confirmed
ICMP - Confirmed
XBOX LIVE - Confirmed
NAT - (either moderate, opened, or strict)

If all those are the same, the problem has nothing to do with the xbox itself and you need a new router, or modem.

If results come out to be
''Network Adapter - Disconnected''
After test is run (and your 360 is connected properly to your router AND modem then you have a hardware problem. Whether the problem is in the 360 or the router/modem is easy to test.

Connect the modem directly to the 360 via ethernet. If this fixes the problem, the router is fail.

If you can get on the internet wirelessly and grounded on a computer, the 360 is busted.

Sorry it took me so long to explain that, but i hope it helps you.

Best of luck

Connect to wireless

I believe the X-Box does NOT have Wifi built in? (sic)Surprisingly, the Xbox 360 doesn't have wireless networking built in. If you don?t fancy using the wired Ethernet method, you can invest in a wireless networking adapter. Microsoft has its own adapter specifically designed for the Xbox 360, but third-party Wifi-certified devices will work just as well.(sic) From the below site. http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:d7LlkY7Zo1sJ:www.vnunet.com/personal-computer-world/hardware/2147007/microsoft-xbox-360+xbox+360+wifi+is+built+in%3F&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2 So that may be ya problem?

Link Your Console to Another Console

Console-to-Console Connection: Wireless Some Xbox games offer console-to-console, or system-link, play, in which two or more players (depending on the game) can wirelessly network their consoles for multiplayer use. Console-to-console wireless networks are also known as ad-hoc networks. In ad-hoc networks, a wireless adapter on one device connects directly to a wireless adapter on another device. An Internet connection isn't shared with this type of network, and the console-to-console connection is typically temporary. For console-to-console play, you need: Two Xbox 360 consoles. Two Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapters. An Xbox 360 game that supports system link play. To wirelessly connect your console to another console: Attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to the back of each console as described in Use Your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter. On each console, go to the System area to enter your network settings. (They will be the same for each console.) If all settings are correct, exit the System area. The consoles should now be wirelessly connected to each other.
