Question about Dell Axim X5 Pocket PC

2 Answers

I bought a cheap Axim X5 PDA and I believe it is missing the top "door" but I am not sure, as I bought it from ebay, and don't know anything else about it. Also, it needs a back up battery cover. I am curious if someone sells the shell with top door, and maybe I could make that work. I can't get away from the align screen. Will it do this each time I turn it on??

The top door is a translucent cover for the CF slot to keep dust out if no card is in place. Try ebay for an old shell. The backup battery cover can be purchased from Dell. I did a couple years ago. The alignment screen should only appear the FIRST time it is used and then only when you request it. There is an alignment problem with the Axim on some units. It may eventually loop only the alignment screen and never progress. Google the problem I don't know if there is a solution for that.

Dell Axim5 Top Door is for Compact Flash car. the Battery Backup is the one to maintain the memory alive, but if you still have main battery good is supposed the memory remain until you go out of battery. I have one with some reason the battery backup do not function, so I have to backup all data.

Does not recognize my connection for active sync

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50 and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to a computer using a sync cable.
  1. p 1 The Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PCmag-glass_10x10.gif Companion CD.
  2. Step 2 The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
  3. Step 3 Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.
  4. Step 4 Check the PDA. If the PDA is not properly cabled to the computer, you will get the following message: “Connect your device to a computer using a sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure that ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync connection is successful.”
  5. Step 5 Ensure that the Dell logo faces upward.
  6. Step 6 Use the sync cable to set up a partnership, which can be done multiple times when you sign in as a guest.

Can I use Standard 4G or 8G SD or Cf cards in a Dell Axim X5?

SD cards must be SD not SDHC, there is not an SDHC driver for the X5. You can find regular SD cards up to 4G.

CF is no problem, all flash based CF cards will work. Microdrives can be problematic.

Good Eevening :

You could get original disk from ebay at times but all you need is the Activesync that can be downloaded from Microsoft. Get Active sync 4.2. The newer ones do NOT work with the X5.

Good luck with the wireless card. The Axim does not play well with many of them. (sometimes works but mostly not) Try drivers from d Link and be sure to remove the old drivers first.

Confused about the WiFi on X5

It does NOT have integrated WiFi, you will have to buy a compact-flash card, the Linksys WCF12 works perfectly in mine.

AXIM X5

To copy word documents, simply connect your device to your computer, click "Explorer" in ActiveSync, and then transfer the word document from your desktop to your Pocket PC. ActiveSync will do the conversion from Word to Pocket Word for you. As for wireless internet service, you need a wireless Compact Flash card and data service. Sprint is one of the few companies that offers this, and there is also the Pocket Spider from Enfora which can connect on some wireless networks.
