Question about MSI S260 Barebone

Notebook shutting down

Recently I had our computer tech at work upgrade my notebook(Dell Inspiron 1100) by adding a memory chip and installing Outlook 2007. Couple days past and I notice that my notebook would shut down in the middle of any program that was running . I took the notebook back to our computer tech and he ran some test, however he was unable to resolved the problem. The memory chip was purchased at a local computer store.

Oh, open my notebook and removed the new memory chip to see if that was causing the problem, but after a few hours the notebook shut down.

Re: Notebook shutting down

Take out the chip and see if it works better, if it does, you have to put the same kind of chip in it as the one that is in it. make sure they bouth are the same. they have numbers on the get the same name, most poeople put in differant brands and they dont work well together.

Computer shutdown halfway operating

More than likely your laptop is overheating and it is shutting down to protect itself.

Check and make sure your air vent is clean and unobstructed. Get a can of compressed air and blow through it to clear out any debris.

Worse case scenario is it could be your Nvidia chip that is malfunctioning and causing the laptop to shutdown also. There is a known issue with the older Nvidia chips that they would get overheated and causing the solder joints to crack and separate from the motherboard. This would cause the system to shut down and can't start up. Only way to fix that particular issue is by replacing the motherboard unfortunately.

You don't say what operating system you are using? If you are using Windows you may need to have " .Net framework v 2" and up installed. I have seen this problem on numerous occasions. You can download the first framework file on a different pc and install from a Memory stick. The file you need is called "Dotnetfx" (I think) or something close.

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermaloverload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is theproblem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are cloggedwith dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make surethe vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed airto do this.

Hello there michael:
This is a fairly easy computer to upgrade the memory on what you need to do is
First unplug the computer and ensure it is off.
now look at the keyboard and you will see 4 black tabs towards the top of the keyboard these are the release tabs for the keyboard get a small flattip screwdriver and insert it in the back of them and they will slide down towards the space bar to unlock. do this for eack of the tabs .
now the keyboard will be able to lift out from the top and swing back towards you
Now you can see the memory modules
M700 Laptop takes the PC100 SDRAM SODIMMs. Memory Type, and comes installed with 32 MB or 64 MB (non-removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Compaq Armada M700 Laptop to up to a maximum of 544 MB or 576 MB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 32 MB or 64 MB (non-removable) standard Memory installed. ok
Then insert the ram nad replace the keyboards and slide the tabs back in place and you are done just start up the computer and you will get a memory notification press f0 to accept and the system will start ok
Hope this helps best regards Mike

Where is the expansion slot for the RAM for ASUS Notebook A2400H?

The manual is incorrect. Memory is under keyboard. There is a small hole to the left of the right speaker. insert a paperclip vertically into the hole and apply a slight amount of pressure at the same time sliding the plastic section to the left. It should be obvious at this stage. then fold back keyboard. 2 memory slots are located under the plate near the middle of the unit. Specs say max of 2 x 512MB modules. they are PC2100 DDR266 200 pin SODIMM. If there is someone else reading this maybe they can tell me what the slot is for under the smaller plate to the right of the memory compartment.

Your laptop can have up to 1 GB of memory. You should have two slots and you can install 512 MB per slot. Your laptop is using 200 Pin DDR PC2100 266 MHz CL 2.5 SODIMM. You can also install PC3200, but your laptop will clock it down to 266 MHz.
