Question about Maytag 24 in. MDB5601AWS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher
Have had this dishwasher from new for a little over a year. Had no problems previously. When I close the door it appears to lock as normal. I push the button for the wash cycle (normal) and it lights up. But when I push "Start" nothing happens. The light does not come on, the machine doesn't start (no sound) and the "washing" light does not come on.
Not a power problem because the "normal" light is working. Also seems not to be a door lock problem. Have tried unplugging and letting rest and then replugging--didn't help.
Trying to determine if there is an easy (and cheap) fix before I call in the repairman.

donnson, sounds more like the touch panel shorted or stuck keypads. You can remove the touch panel ribbon from the control board and try to clean it with an eraser. You will need to remove the torx screws and remove the inside panel. See if it comes back to life. Behind the toe-panel on the bottom, there should be a tech sheet showing how to check the key pad. The key pad and control board are warranteed for 5 years on this model, parts only. Catriver..post back.

Sounds like you have a control panel and/or control board issue. Normally when operator functions fail or "halfway" work the main control board, associated keypad, or wiring are the likely suspect. Now...another remote possibility could be the door latch not closing properly. However, this would affect ALL functions. I hope this helps you.

on a dishwasher an ohmmeter is almost useless. the best way to check is to look for voltage. at the door switch check for voltage to ground on both sides. if you have 120 on both sides of the switch then follow the wire over to the control board. if you have 120 going into the control board and nothing coming out of the control then you nood to start looking for a broken neutral. however the likelyhood that its the control panel may be a better idea especially if you are hitting buttons and nothing happens. try reseating any ribbon cables

Had the same problem, removed the kick panel to find a set of instructions under the insulation, had to push a sequence of the panel buttons, its been running great for a couple of weeks now!
