Asus X71SL laptop - webcam issue

New Asus X71SL laptop - issue with built in webcam showing image upside down. Can take pictures but have to flip them right side up. Checked properties but no option to rotate shows up. Diagnostic test shows that it's running fine. I am not computer savvy so I'm pretty stuck.

What if there is no option to rotate?

  • brandy_ontiv Jul 03, 2009

Yes it was in Properties. I think the problem is maybe I need to install the driver - which I assumed was already done for me - because the only "program" that opens up with the camera is the wizard which is extremely basic. I really don't know how to install it but I did rec'v a bunch of cd's with the laptop. I just never did anything with them.

Go to the Camera Assistant Software on your computer, then go to Properties, then click on one Flip Vertical Arrow Twice then you should be all set.

The laptop has a built in camera. My picture is inverted. How do I fix this problem

hi lilly, i am happy to assist you, just follow the steps.

To check the Webcam issue, go to and see if your picture is upside down.

If your picture is upside down, then that means that a setting for your webcam could be wrong. (You might find your webcam control software either under Control Panel, or in "All Programs" under the manufacturer's folder.) To fix this, launch your webacm configuration program and click Properties, look around the program [the option MAY be hidden in an ADVANCED tab,] and make sure that there isn't some option checked that says something like "flip video".

If your picture **ISN'T** upside down (from,) then that means your camera is working properly, and that your VIDEO PLAYER is flipping the video on playback. Launch your video player, and click Properties. Look for a "Flip Video"-like entry and make sure it is turned off.

My built-in webcam pictures have upside down. How can i make it?

You first have to uninstall your webcam driver. Then start the TASK MGR and go to SERVICES tab, find MScamSVC and Stop the service. Have the driver downloaded and extracted. Go to the directory that you extracted the driver to and run the Setup. Then WAIT until it says it's completed the process and prompts you to reboot.

Issues with new Asus laptop.

Hmmm... it's more updates, and drivers(software) than anything.

For the Mozzila issue, first make sure you have full Windows Updates, you should have updated it to Service Pack 3(XP) or Service Pack 2(Vista) and have all current updates that it tells you to install. Combatility issues occur with software, especially browsers if you don't have certain Windows Updates installed. If you are still having issues with Mozzilla, and have updated fully. I recommend downloading from another source like ,uninstall the other one, and reinstall from the fresh download. If the problem persists, visit the Mozilla support site ( ) and view the FAQ and support, or contact them for further help. Good luck with that.

With the Webcam check all the settings and make sure everything is correct. Read the manual that came with the laptop as there should be one for each peice of software like the webcam, if you still can't find a solution for that, visit the manufactures website for the webcam and the software. They should have an FAQ on their site.

Yes, different DVDs come in different formats. An encoder is any software program that runs that particular format. I use SM player which covers a lot of the coding issue.

You can find individual codes via Google if you know what format it is. Much like a driver, it enables your software to connect with the information from the DVD.
