The 49 error is usually a memory error. Go through your menu to clear the stored memory & see if it prints out anything. If it doesn't, is it on a network?

In alot of cases it is because of a bad PDF file that someone is trying to print. turn the machine off and then on, but clear the print cue first.

If this is not the case than a memory SIMM may be the problem or main board.

SOURCE: can not fax or recieve

Hello,

The Error 49 message you are getting is caused by a board called a formatter, basically the brain of the unit. You can try to reset the board, this may work. If the error comes back then the board will need to be replaced before the error will go away. You can reset the formatter by going into the setup menu.

Setup then go to "Services", press "go" go to "Restore Defaults", press "go"

Beware, this will restore factory settings and clear all settings on the board such as your fax number, memory dial numbers, date and time.

Resetup your machine and you should be faxing again in no time at all..

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

My brother mfc-490cw I can't send or recieve faxes.

According to the User's Manual for the Brother MFC-490CW:
  • Poor Line Connection indicates an issue with your telephone line (Page 136). If you are sharing the fax line with any splitters or computers, try connecting the MFC-490CW directly to the phone jack and send a fax. If you are still getting a Poor Line Connection error message, call the telephone company and have a repair technician check your telephone line.

  • Out of Memory error message means the machine's memory is full (Page 138).

Try pressing Stop/Exit and wait until all current operations finish and try again.

Try clearing the data in memory. To gain extra memory space. turn off Memory Receive (See Page 48).

Try printing the faxes that are in memory (See Page 49).

  • System Busy error message wasn't in the manual, but I suspect it means there's a current operation in progress and the machine needs time to finish before moving on to another job. Just wait for the current job to finish, then try again.

We are not receiving faxes..we keep getting error code 407..Please help? Thank you.

The message means:

407 No confirmation from the receiving station for the
previous page sent.
Wait a few minutes and send again.

This can mean 2 things

1) you have not set your fax machine to recieve faxes

2) you need to have your fax machine serviced because the part that makes it pickup a fax has malfuctioned

Clean all paper paths with paper path cleaner.
Unplug and then after 10 seconds replug the fax machine and do a test recieve for it

If all else fails, you may need to call a service person to repair or replace the broken or defective part that recieves faxes.

Hope this helps :)

Same problem

press the setup button and scroll down to tools.
in tools there should be an option that says run fax test.
that would give you a printed page as to which part of the hardware of the printer or the fax line failed.

What your error code means is(look below)

Definition

There is too much noise on the line for a valid connection between two fax machines to complete. The noise problem might go away over time.

Solution

Retry the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved. Call the telephone provider if line conditions fail to improve.

Canon fax 2060P not recieving faxes

It seems that the protocol is failing. Just check, by printing a receive report. If there are errors it is after the check frame. If no errors, it is failing before the check frame. In either case, 1st aid is to listen using a handset for noise or static on the line. If the line is clear, then you will have to call service to change the tx/rx attenuation.

ERROR 1200

The error 1200 refers to a problem with one or both of your cartridges, and as the printer uses these cartridges to print, it will not be able to print any recieved faxes. To avoid lost data, it blocks all fax usage as a result of recieving this message.
