You could have a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp, To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

my screen is dimming when I first turn on or wake up my computer. I tried plugging it into an external monitor and nothing happened...both monitors stayed bright. I did not have the power cord plugged into the computer at the time. When I took it back to my room and left it unplugged it did not flicker. When I plugged it into the power cord, it began flickering again. I have not tried using the power cord and the external monitor at the same time yet, but I can. Would this indicate that I need a new screen? or the ccfl lamp and inverter? Are the ccfl and inverter inside the screen so it would be easier to get a whole new screen rather than individual parts?

Moniter screen is flickering

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor is bad, since it flickers, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself. in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

My screen below the taskbar keeps on flickering

that sounds like a either a monitor issue or video card issue. in most cases, if it is a video card, you wouldn't see the image on the screen. I would try the monitor, if you had it for quite a while, it is possible that the monitor is going bad.

I know it is not software problem.

Thw on/off button isnt responding, but the light above it is flickering, the screen doesnt show anything.

I apologize then, the monitor is definitely bad. If the menus can't be accessed and you can't get a self-test to come up then the monitor is done. From my experience, sounds like it might be bad capacitors on the power board that go puffy, but taking it into an electronics shop and having it fixed might cost more then the monitor is worth.

Wish I could of helped you more.

Sumsung 930b goes dim,and flickers after about 3 min.

This sounds like the inverter has gone bad. If the bulb were bad only, you would see a faint image on the screen with a flashlight.

The problem is on this monitor, it will probably cost about $100 or so to take it to a shop to get it fixed, and that is nearing the cost of a new monitor.

If you are a little bit handy, and can disassemble the monitor, you can replace the inverter. The hardest thing about this, is getting the monitor faceplate open. Just use something firm and softer, such as a nylon spudger (this is something you can find online) or you can carefully use a thin scredriver. You just have to be careful, those cases are really tight.

Here is a good guide for general ideas on how it is done.

If you bought it new in this last August, don't put up with it but get it fixed under the warranty. That is what warranties are for.

BLANK SCREEN???

This new system I'm using has done something similar on a few occasions. I only had to disconnect/reconnect the plug from the back of my monitor and did the same with the Vdo card plug and everything was fine. That hasn't happened again since I put a different power cord on it.
