I have same problem, that even got worse than that.
I had a similar problem with a toshiba, one that I had messed around with a little too much. Back then I didn't know much about wireless networking. It all happened right after i started messing with the "ipconfig" on the "RUN" menu. First it was like your problem, then I went back to do the ipconfig again, the next time my computer restarted, All the device manager disappeared, and none of the internet connection is there anymore, even my dvd player has dissapeared from the computer menu.

Check that the cable that comes out of the back of the feeder is plugged in completely. If not, turn off the machine and unplug the copier before plugging the adf connector in, then turn machine back on.
If that is not the problem, the sensor flag or sensor may be out of place. Where the paper goes in, there should be a black plastic flag hanging down that the paper will move when you insert it, If you can see it and it seems to move properly, then the sensor may be out of place or the sensor/feed medchanism is out of place and it is a little tricky to explain here. The sensor is above the flag, but under a metal plate and you may mess it up worse by trying to take it apart.

remove the side cover
undo the nut in the middle and remove filter
take the foam of the frame
clean with a solvent, kero or similar
clean again in detergent and water
continue until spotless
use a air cleaner oil from a bike shop
put some oil on the foam and squeeze until oil is completly over filter( will be all the same color)
can do this inside a plastic bag to save the mess
fit back on frame
place a smear of grease around the edge that has to seal.
refit in air box, with centre bolt
feel all the way around to make sure it is sealing.
refit side cover.
doesnt matter too much if it is still a little wet
do this after every dusty ride
even twice on very dusty rides
I keep about 3-4 spare filters, clean in plastic bags, and wash them all together.
dont forget oil changes as well, they hold a bit over 1 litre, so change it often
If you are taking about where you plug in your charger, then yes, it can be replaced. Be forewarned that you need to have GREAT soldering skills to perform this task because if you mess up, even a little, it could destroy your notebook. I would open the case an desolder the female plug on the notebook if there is anything left of it. You will need to take it to a Radio Shack or similar store for a replacement part. Also, take your charger in to make sure that you are getting the correct part. When you solder it back into the motherboard, there are usually two solder spots on the sides and one at the back. Make sure that the solder does not touch any other connection. Be sure you use a low wattage soldering iron to perform this so that it does not damage the motherboard from the heat. If this is not the case, please let me know more about the problem and I will give you further instructions.
I had a similar issue, whereby my phone would turn on for 30 secs then the screen would go white and the phone would switch it self off then on.
After a lot of messing around even throwing the phone around the place. I took out the memory card and the phone worked fine. When I put the card back in, the phone started misbehaving again, so I guess the card is knackered.
Toshiba makes a great laptop but the display video or lcd seem to go bad very quickly I have replaced the lcd in many to solve this problem but be aware a few also had bad video cards (unlikley in your case as the external video is fine) it would seem as the lcd panel has gone bad on yours. the average replacment is around $100.00 to $300.00 depending on where you purchase from.
I have a similar problem. The laptop switches into battery mode irregularry, even if no battery is inside. It runs stable with power cord connected for some minutes or hours, but sometimes switches off with no warning. I have taken a new power cable, but still the same problem. The battery is broken, it only lasts some minutes.
