I have the purple Animal model. When I step on the front of the cleaner to lower the handle then try to push to vacuum it "folds" up??

I don't think I'm describing the problem clearly. When I release the handle the front roller parts folds back up under the back. Does that make sense?

This is my first day on FixYa so excuse my ignorance. I added a comment to your solution #1. Will you respond to it either way or do I create a new question? Thanks for you help & patience

You need to click the handle in/out there should be a release button in-front of it.

Hi,

I talked to Dyson support (they are open 6 days a week, try them if you're stuck)

Turn the vacum on it's side. Look on the side that has Bare floor/carpet control. There is a hose with two yellow buttons. Detach the hose. On the square side, look for a black button. Depress the button, then release. On the square side, slide the square up until it locks in place.

Now try to see if it will go upright (it should)

Finally, re-attach the hose.

yes there is an adjustment called a power cam. I am enclosing a link to show you exactly where it is

http://www.dyson.com/homepage.asp
Could you expand on the suction part please? Does this mean the Dyson wont pick up when its put in the upright position and the hose is released? The two problems are not connected although they are in the same area design wise at the back of the cleaner.

To check for upright lock problems:

Check on the underside that the Dyson roller strip hinge which allows the handle to come down hasn't come away from the main underside. This is one of the tell tale signs to why it wont return to the upright position. You can see this if you look on the underside just upwards from the rear wheels. A piece of plastic usually moves backwards and forwards until it rests in the upright position. It may be dirty or clogged or may need 3 in 1 lubrication oil on the ends to get it moving again. iF it has been broken off however you will need to get this replaced.

If it has suction problems then there is definately a clog at the bottom of the hose. You'll need to look at the air inspection tubes to see if there is anything clogged. Usually a tune up only reveals motor reconditioning rather than a full filter check up.
Thanks for contacting Fixya.

Install upper control rod

Hi, it's Jeremy from Crucial Vacuum.

To attach the upper handle to your Hoover Steam Vac remove the clean solution tank (upper tank) from the deep cleaner. Then, attach the upper handle to the lower handle by pushing the upper handle down onto lower one. Use the provided bolts to secure the handles. Push the bolts into the accompanying holes on the front of handle. If the bolts do not go through the holes easily, your handle is not pushed completely down. When the handle sections are completely together, squeeze the trigger on the upper handle to snap the trigger rod into place.

If you require further help with your assembly, you can find a step-by-step manual at: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/user-manuals/f5865900-hoover-parts-steam+vac-manual

Hello Beater brush will not work. I see switch on handle, perhaps needs replacement??? Is there anything else that controls beater brush. How do I determine problem and what is solution if know?

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC15 Animal. Your cleaner is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the brushbar if it gets tangled with a rug fringe, shoelace etc. After making sure the brushbar is free of threads, hair or other obstructions, you'll be able to reset the cleaner and get the brushbar running again. The easiest way to do this is to follow the steps shown in our guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp?article=915&product=DC15-ANIMAL

Please note, the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've turned it off using the red brush control switch located next to the purple on/off switch.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've tried this and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you recommend the best course of action.

Kind regards,

How do I get the hose off to clean furniture?

Just above the power button is the purple, ribbed section that pushes in for releasing the hose. You press in and lift to release the entire hose assembly. You then pull the hose down to separate it from the handle. Push in purple button at end of hose section to separate the two sections. Now just flip over the wand and attach to opening at top of handle by sliding into the round, vented purple cap until you hear a click. That's it! Now you can use as is or connect your attachments if you have them. Hope this helped!

My Dyson will not lock into the stand position

- Stand behind the vacuum cleaner
- Remove the AI PIPE (it has two purple buttons that you push together to lift it up and out - it looks like a Tuba)
- Lay the handle down
- Stick your index finger and middle finger into the vacant AI Pipe Hole (the square hole)
- Reach over with your thumb and press the black button in front of the square hole
- WHilst pushing the black button, lift your index finger and your middle finger and move the gray plastic piece up (lift the square holse basically)
- Remove your fingers from the square hole
- Lift the handle and stand your machine back upright again
- Place the AI Pipe back into the square hole

How do I open the dirt cannister on a dyson animal (purple) so I can empty the dirt out?

This is fairly easy. Click on the button at the top of the hand above the cannister. It's a purple button and the handle faces the front and says Dyson on it. This separate the cannister from the body.

Next, hold the now full cannister above a trash can and click on the red button which was below the purple button (but hidden when it was attached).

My Dyson upright suddenly won't stay in the upright position. It appears that a little rubber piece has fallen out of position.

- Stand behind the vacuum cleaner and look at the right-hand side wheel
- Remove the AI PIPE (it has two purple buttons that you push together to lift it up and out - it looks like a Tuba)
- Lay the handle down and look for a black button that will be exposed in front of the square hole
- Stick your index finger and middle finger into the vacant AI Pipe Hole (the square hole)
- Reach over with your thumb and press the black button in front of the square hole
- Whilst pushing the black button, lift your index finger and your middle finger and move the gray plastic piece up (lift the square
hole basically)
- Remove your fingers from the square hole
- Lift the handle and stand your machine back upright again
- Place the AI Pipe back into the square hole
