Question about Furuno 1715 LCD Radar System GPS Receiver

Furuno 1715 Radar - 'NO HEADING PULSE'

System powers up normal. Screen shows beam rotation, but no definition in azimuth, ie all contacts are complete circles at constant range and caption 'NO HEADING PULSE ' is displayed.

Had similar problem a few months ago, engineer found grub screw holding drive wheel for antenna belt had come loose and scanner was free to drift around erattically. This situation differs as contacts appear as continuous circles of constant range.

Is it likely to be the belt drive again or something more exotic, ie do I get up there myself or go direct to the local agent?

Cheers,

Dave

More than likely the belt has come off again. This is a common problem with this radar. You'll need a small allen wrench to tighten it up again.

Furuno 1715 gives "no heading pulse" error. Image normal, but clocked due to no reference. Pulled heading sensor (4X6X1mm black box, two wires, labeled NRS-101) and checked continuity across leads. Open...

Heading pulse is a reed switch sensor built inside the dome. upon each rotation of the array the reed switch is activated. Do a visual inspection of your array (inside) to make sure it is spinning (verify from a distance). Don't get eye level with the rotating array it can cause great harm to your eyes. Normally I have seen the belt slip off and also the lanyard attachment get caught in the array. Check those two things as well.

If you have no radar targets, go to longest range 24 miles, gain full, rain and sea minimum, do you have noise, if so, need magnetron, if not, need cable from display to dome.

Error SB SIG MISS on FURUNO CRT radar?

Either your reed switch is bad or your antenna is not rotating. You may hear the motor spinning but that does not mean the array is. If the array is not spinning make sure the belt did not come off the motor. Start there.

Your belt on the inside of the dome has come off. Take a small allen wrench with you when you go to check on it.

Furuno 1623 Radar reading "no heading pulse"

The messages “NO HEADING PULSE” and “NO BEARING PULSE” means that the display is not communicating with the scanner (antenna). Both of these signals are generated in the scanner if you get this error check that the antenna cable is firmly connected and that the contacts are clean and corrosion free.

If the connection at the display looks good and feels like it’s properly connected, check the cable for any damage If you find damage you could try to repair the wires BUT (because of corrosion and moisture problems) IT IS STRONGLY REMENDED that the cable be replaced, but it’s kind of expensive $275.00.

The Part number is 000-130-034. Depending on the marine shops in your area they may have it in stock (or they can order one) but you can get it directly from Furuno at;

I hope it’s just a loose connection. Good luck!
