Poulan makes a tool, part # 530031112, with two prongs that fit the grooves on the sides of the clutch. It fits most Poulan saws and trimmers made in at least the last decade. I use a butterfly impact and 3/4 impact socket and turn CLOCKWISE to remove. There should by an arrow and the word off stamped on the clutch This is the tool... That should work for you. Chain not oiling

Remove bar and chain, run the saw to see if its oiling without the bar on.
If still not oiling, remove the clutch, clutch drum and check the plastic thread on the oil worm.
Also check for blockages in the pipe from the oil pump that feeds the bar.
Lastly check the oil pump is actually functioning properly.

McCullock 7-38 chain lube not working

The oil pump is behind the sprocket and clutch, if you have cleaned out the delivery hole in the bar and still no oil, then you will need to check the pump itself, remove the e clip and washer securing the sprocket, remove the sprocket, the clutch is removed with a pin spanner, there is a genuine tool for this 530031112, you can then jar the clutch off against the compression of the saw ( left hand thread ) there is now just two screws securing the oil pump, the pump has a nylon gear, with a steel gear pressed onto the crank, check the condition of the nylon gear, remove the silver bar pad cover tou can then pull out the pick up/delivery tube, on the end is a filter.

Oil pump on 020 stihl

Remove the side casing, then remove the spark plug and use a piston block to stop the piston rising while you remobe the clutch, once the clutch is off, the drum, bearing and oil work should be removable, along with the 2 plastic crank coveres. Once all this has been taken off you will have access to the oil pump.

Not pumping oil to chain, bought a new pump and oil pickup but I`m not sure where the oil pump is located and what I have to disassemble to get to it.

Most oil pumps are situated behind the clutch and sprocket, these will need to be removed before you can acsess the old pump, if it has an inboard sprocket you will need to remove the clutch first, these are a left hand thread and just spun onto the crankshaft, they need to be jarred off against the compression of the saw, you may need a special tool if there is no nut on the outside of the clutch, this tool fits most Poulon clutches 530035560, once removed it is a fairly straight forward job to change the pump.

Husqvarna chain saw 385 xp chain or bar not getting oil at all

check bar oil holes,
check oil tank pickup filter - should be clear, clean oil tank

remove drum and clutch, check drum and check oil pump driver arms ( could have worn or broken off and drum is not driving it around ,

check the worm part of the pump driver as well ,
remove pump oil pickup lines and outlet lines , check that both lines are clear and that the pump is not all bound up / stiff or damaged if everything else is good

i would replace the pump and reassemble , tighten clutch anti-clockwise ( clockwise to loosen it ) make sure drum cut out engages oil pump driver arms

as a rule if replace pump also replace pump driver , they are matched

Chain is not getting oil. bar and chain both get hot. everytime i refuel chain oil res. is almost empty. i have cleaned the bar groves and holes...whats my problem...stihl 025 saw

hi sounds like you may have a broken oil pump driver tag on the worm ( this is under the clutch ) and clutch is under drum
slot on drum drives oil pump driver around and the worm turns the pump

make sure oil pick up filter is not blocked and the hose or connection to pump under loop handle is not sucking air instead of oil

if these are ok drum ,and pump worm, pump driver tag are ok then faulty pump is problem

remove clip and washer , remove drum clutch is removed by rotating it clockwise ( it has a left hand thread)

you will need to loc crankshaft so it does not move while you undo it

check pump driver worm for damage and driver tag for broken lug that engages drum , check for loose oil connection from tank to pump inlet ( this is under loop handle / support cradle 0

if need replace oil pump fit a m5 x 0.8 cap screw into the pump and pull it out

note make a note of haw far the pump is pushed down into the cavity
so you can refit it into the same positon

there is a little cut out on the side of the pump you must align 1st before fitting

you may wish your local sthil shop to test and repair if need
can get a little tricky

but give it a whirl if you want

cheers paul hope it helps
