Question about Sony DCR-VX2000 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

2 Answers

A tape won't eject, how can i get it out? a week ago my vx2000 would not eject tape. I turned off power left it for a couple hours then tried again and it worked. The tape however was damaged. I then made the mistake of putting damaged tape back in to recover now will not eject no matter what i try. I am getting a 32:11 error message. I have taken camera to proffessional repair facility and they are quoting me $736 for parts and labor...they say the cassette compartment actuator motor is bad.

On some Sony videocams when the tape will not eject ,you can remove the battery and then reinstall the battery and the tape will be ejected. You may try this on your vcam

If that doesn't work, with tape still in unit and battery removed, smack both sides of unit
firmly 3-4 times with the heel of your hand. It works 9 out of 10 times
    on all Sony cameras.

If they have to replace the actuator motor, then your looking at about $350-400 for that part. Plus it is labor intensive, so their estimate is in the ball park - a bit on the high end, but it's in there. What is their turnaround time?

As for trying to repair this yourself, don't. This is not an easy fix without the knowledge and proper tools to replace the motor. It's very hard to get to, and there are about 1000 tiny little pieces, screws, springs, etc. Any one of those get's damaged or goes missing, and you're going to hate yourself. Try getting another quote for a competitor, and compare. Make sure there is some kind of warranty for the work.

Of course, you also have the option of not fixing it, and either buying a new one. I would suggest posting it up on ebay as an 'as-is' or 'parts only' item, then take those funds and invest in a new camera.. These retail for $1000, and I've even seen them on sale for about $850 - so this is a tough decision to make.

Hope this helps some.

Vcr seems to have quit, will not eject etc

If you can see that your VCR has power (lights up) when you turn it on, but it still won't eject tape, then unplug for a and hour or two. When you turn it on again, it should reset itself and start up. Then you should be able to eject cassette.
If there is no power at all, or you think the taped is jammed and you want to save the tape, remove the top panel of the unplugged VCR and gently remove the tape. Good luck!

I keep getting an error message saying "Remove the Cassette" and the eject mechanism won't work so I can't even remove it. It hasn't been dropped or anything. I just used it a couple of weeks ago, and it...

The only thing that you can try is to unplug the camcorder from any type of power supply, leave it sitting for about 10 minutes, plug it back in, and try again. If the tape was left in the unit while it was not being used, this could have caused a problem. If you are still unable to remove the tape, you will need to have the camcorder repaired or at least get an estimate.

Well, it's always good to know the exact cause. Your post may help others. I deal in media issues all the time in the data processing world. Though not always the cause, it is unwise to at least examine the media when the hardware won't load it, and try others to certify the hardware functionality.

If your tape isn't actually broken why don't you try loading it and immediately fast-forwarding it past the defect? It should load fine a couple of feet into the tape. You may miss the beginning of your program but it won't be a total loss.

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the cassette compartment will not open or the tape is stuck and will not eject.

  2. Remove the battery from the camera.
  3. Remove the AC power supply from the camera.
  4. Slide the power switch on the camera to the VTR , VCR or CAMERA mode for 15 seconds.
  5. Slide the power switch back to the OFF position.
  6. Connect the AC power supply to the camera.
  7. Attempt to open the cassette compartment.
NOTE: If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required .

Eject light comes on after I start playing the tape

I had the same problem with my camcorder just awhile ago. This can reflect a low battery. Try plugging in the camcorder for a couple of hours without using it. Then try recording or playing back the tape with it plugged in. Unplug it and check again. If this does not work you may have to replace the tape head.

Error C31:22

this is a capstan error but the capstan may not be bad. 1st I clean the tape path ,then check for low take up tension, needs to be 8 to 10 grams. start there, sometimes these require replacement of the mechanism which is not all that expensive considering. part is under a humdred. these mech are not just drop and go, they wll need computer recalibration. good luck.

tape path alignment is very critical for these cameras. audio dropout is a typical symptom of misalignment. find a good local repair shop; if they know what they are doing, it should be a simple alignment job.
