Hello I bought my beige singer in "78 in Sydney and is worth it's weight in gold~ as it has been in loads of use but MYSTERIOUSLY ~last time I tried to use it~ the needle peculiarly ~kept hitting the rotating base metal on each downward movement~ and not going through the hole as it always has done before can you figure what I need to do to get them in sync again I have no idea what caused this ~ as nothing was touched to alter the sync mechanism many thanks for any advice from Carole in the UK

Does the base metal (hook assembly) rotate as you turn the handwheel? If "no", then your lower gears are shot.

Just a tip for repairs or service, please always check out the place you take your machine to be serviced or repair, ours was given to a centre who claimed they could service it, after charging a high price for the repair, the machine only lasted a day before the same fault reappeared, Singer in Sydney au sorted it out for us it now works better than it did before and it only cost us the return freight deldird au

Is the Singer 513 worth taking in to get cleaned or repaired?

always, you will notice that it has a metal body which means it will last and last the brothers plastic will just deteriorate over time. The plastic parts in the brother will crap out. Th singer will still work in 20 years the brother will last 4-5 years if you are careful

New Singer 1507 user - cotton jamming everytime

try this link for a free manual just in case you don't have one
if the fabric is real light weight you may have to use a stablizer
also check to make sure the needle is the right one for the fabric being sewed..
make sure the bobbin is turned the correct direction, try putting the bobbin in the opposite direction..
if the machine keeps jamming, take it back up where you bought it and show them what it's doing and see if they can help you..
