What cycle is it set on? have you also selected the soak option? How long does it agitate for before stopping? Does the control panel shut down? is there any readout on the panel? Will it drain and spin when you cancel the cycle?
It probably is over flowing which is triggering a kill switch
Rick, for the posted model. This is a direct drive washer, no belt. As long as you are draining, I believe you have a broken motor coupler, about a 19.00 part. Check out the attachment, look at # 13. One end to the motor, the other to the trans. You will have to remove the cabinet, pump and motor to get at it. Easy job. Catriver.
SOURCE: washing machine won't stop filling with water
if it keeps filling when unplugged replace fill valve if shuts off ckd pressure switch and hose to switch from tub
SOURCE: Washer fills and drains but won't aggitate or spin
Since the washer is less than an year old it must be under a warranty.Try contacting the customer care and get it replaced.
Generally for such a problem,the following checks need to be done.
* Test the lid switch
* Test the timer control
* Test the centrifugal switch
* Test the water level switch
* Inspect the motor coupler
* Inspect the drive belt (belt drive only)
* Inspect under the washer for soot (clutch)
* Test the motor
* Inspect the pulley
* Test the transmission
In your case I would advice to get your machine replaced with a new one.Good luck,Please do rate the solution if accepted.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.
First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action
Enter your model number (110.########) and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.
(The 110 means that it was manufactured by Whirlpool, you also need to enter the 8 digit model number)
Also see the Whirlpool / Kenmore Service Manual for these washers.

It has testing procedures as well as a good description of how the washer works.
It sounds like a defective water level switch or water inlet valve.
See the following for how to release the console and cabinet on these machines in order to get to the switch for testing.

Basically, what happens is:
When the washer is turned on, the water inlet switch is closed allowing water to flow thru the inlet valve. When it senses that the machine is to the level selected by the water level dial, the switch opens shutting the inlet valves.
If the switch or valve is defective, water will continue to enter the machine.
The Whirlpool Service Manual has testing procedures (basis continuity tests with a multimeter) for both the switch and valve.
