If the gas is leaking out of the carb, then it is most likely flooding and the needle valve possibly is being held open by some stray debris. Carb needs to be removed and checked....possibly even rebuilt as older models require this periodically.

2004 chevy cavalier wi'll not start unless I keep my foot on gas. Then it will start but won't stay running until it warms up. While driving it runs fine untill you brare then it stalls out.

Pressing the pedal down, puts in clear flood mode. Any applicable trouble codes? Did you use a gage and check correct fuel pressure, also, see if pressure will hold for a bit, with everything off. If it drops like a rock you have fuel leak. Pull vac line off fuel pressure regulator, where applicable, if fuel runs out, you have a faulty fuel pressure regulator. You could have fuel injector leak?
Smell of your crankcase oil dipstick, if it smells like gas, either you don't change your oil and filter very often or fuel leak. There could be other issues? You have to start testing, somewhere.

Gas leaking when key turned to run position

Hi, Joshua fuel leaks are dangerous for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. I have husqvarna 136 that won't start. If you put gas in carb it will start but won't keep running.

Replace the fuel filter in the tank, check the fuel hose up to the carb for signs of leaking, if so replace the line, between the cylinder and the carb back plate is a rubber induction tube, make sure this has no split.

1989 Ford f150 4x4 6cl When I go to start the truck it will start then I must keep pumping the gas peddle to keep it running if I let off it will die. Even when it is running it runs very rough

Check your fuel pressure to seeif it is high enough. Possible fuel pump or filter which some of those trucks could have up to three fuel pumps, one in each gas tank and a pump along the frame also. Could also be a vacuum leak or a suction leak at the intake or throttle body. Another possibility could be throttle positioning sensor. An easy way to check for a fuel related problem is to lightly spray carb cleaner onto throttle body while trying to start and see if it will continue running on that. If it does then you have a fuel problem. Use carb cleaner safe for fuel injection systems.

Your problem may be one of the following:
First check or just replace the fuel filter. Usually located under the car in front of the rear axle, drivers side.
Next, the fuel pump may be worn out. Usually they get loud or stop working (running).
Next, check the fuel pressure regulator. Usually located on the front fuel rail, drivers side.
Is the vacuum line attached? Not leaking or rotted?
Also, do you smell a strong fuel odor when it won't start? May be one or more stuck-open injectors, or the coil pack is bad.
Checking these in the order listed will more than likely fix your problem.
The clicking noise indicates the battery can no longer run the starter, which also means the fuel pump won't run either.

It could be a fuel issue. How old is the fuel filter? Can you hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key on? Try turning the key to ON without trying to start engine three times waiting for the pump to stop running each time. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, Its a form of Vapor lock caused by the extreme heat we have had lately, and a weak fuel pump.

If none of this works, try a new fuel filter first. From there have someone check the fuel pressure regulator and then the pump. If you are in need of a new pump, take my word for it and spend the money to get one from a Dealer, and not from your favorite parts store. Most parts store parts are made in China and they are JUNK.

Hi, Dan and the usual suspects are:
1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.

Trouble starting my 1992 cav. 2.2. New battery, starter ok, new plugs, can start with ether and then idles and runs fine. Seems like I do not have that initial fuel??

well there is a fuel pressure regulator which keeps pressure on, even while engine is off. i would suspect it is bad, or you have something else leaking pressure off while the engine is not running.

It's never a good thing to let Fuel Injection run out of Gas. The Fuel pump runs on Low Voltage and has a Hard time Restarting. Could also have had some (Gunk) at the bottom of the Tank that got into the Fuel System. Keep tryin to start Her for a while and see if the Pump won;t pick up. Also got a Long way for the Fuel to go to the Motor in that Suburban! Let me Know!

Help w 1994 chevrolet truck

This injector set-up needs a specific fuel pressure supplied to the fuel rail to even start, much less run properly. The fuel pump is immersed in fuel inside the gas tank to keep it cool and not burn up. Running the fuel level low causes more heat in the pump and interuptions in proper fuel pressure. AC/Delco pumps have proven to be a reliable fix, the aftermarket pumps only last for a month or two sometimes. Check fuel pressure under the hood and power and ground to fuel pump at electrical harness at top of gas tank. This truck needs a fuel pump.
