Acer Aspire AX1300-E1820A will not turn on. even if hot wired, I didnot back up my files Help please

Worst case scenario: extract the hard drive from the Aspire (usually its just 2 tiny screws holding
the HDD), and plug this PCMCIA-bus drive into another (functional) laptop. Windows will
mount the drive (but not load the OS). Extract the files using the functional PC's operating system.

In future, always back up your files, or even better - keep no files on the laptop at all - do this
by storing ALL your files to a flash drive. That way, the system can crash an any time (and they do),
and you lose nothing.

My acer aspire 3680 could not power on by bat and adaptor

DC Jack diagnosis:
1. Test power adapter for output voltage. Bend the power cable in various directions while doing this to be sure that there is no broken conductors in the cable.
2. If power adapter is Ok, connect it & see if the power LED on the laptop will glow when you jiggle the power connector in various directions. If yes, then the DC jack might be loose or damaged, & need to be either re-soldered or replaced.
3. If not, then disassemble the laptop. Remove any components that attach to the laptop's motherboard first (e.g. battery, hard drive, RAM, wireless card, optical drive, ... etc.)
4. Next, remove the keyboard & the LCD screen.
5. Finally, unscrew all screws that hold the upper cover & lower cover together so that you could gain access to the motherboard.
6. Inspect the solder points connecting the DC jack to the motherboard. Make sure that none of them is loose. If any, re-solder them.
7. Inspect the center pin in the DC jack. Make sure that it is not broken or loose. If it is, then you might need to replace the DC jack.
8. When you are done, re-assemble back the laptop.

The laptop was dropped & I need to open the machine. But I don't want to go ahead unless there something else wrong with it? There's no bootup !! So this could either be a simple power problem or it's...

You dropped the machine and you think the BIOS is the problem? I think you might have knocked something loose of crashed the heads on your hard drive. I seriouslyl doubt you affected the BIOS.

Check the hard drive to make sure it is securely plugged in. Same with the battery and the memory. If everything is secure, it might be time for a look-see by the guys at the office supply place.

Dvd drive does not open

Have you tried pushing a paperclip in the manual release hole in the bezel of the drive? The opening mechanism of the tray may be jambed shut, possibly pushing the release will unjamb the mechanism.

Acre aspire 5100

sounds like a loose hard drive connection, or you need a BIOS update. You should check Acer's website for an updated BIOS. You should also remove the hard drive (usually a 2 minute job with a small screw driver) and re-seat the drive.

Region setting on Acer Aspire 8920

Older DVD drives use RPC-1 firmware, which means the drive allows DVDs from any region to play. Newer drives use RPC-2 firmware, which enforces the DVD region coding at the hardware level. These drives can often be reflashed with hacked or Australia and New Zealand (hardware region coding prohibited by law in these countries) RPC-1 firmware, effectively making the drive region-free. However, this usually voids the warranty and can render the drive inoperable if something goes wrong... better contact your laptop manufacturer regarding this
