SOURCE: Amana French Door Refrigerator "on" but no cooling; freezer still works

There are 2 possible problems. One is the defrost cycle is not working properly this is usually indicated by a large amount of frost on the back freezer panel. If so, the circuit will have to be repaired and the evaperator thawed to remove the ice build up. The other is the fresh food damper is not working properly this is behind the "lump" in the back of the fridge compartment above the top shelf, remove the louver panel to see if it is open or closed. closed will be warm open should be cold. The water dispenser reservoir is probably frozen due to poor air circulation.

SOURCE: Amana bottom freezer/ refrigerator

Geezer, sounds like a defrost issue. I usually find the bi-metal to be the culprit on this model. Check out the pic. You will have to remove the back panel in the freezer and defrost the evaporator. Remove the ice maker if there is one. The back cover has 4 quarter inch screws. remove those. The air vent has 2 plastic clips one each side and one on the bottom, push in and pull the grill off. The thermistor cover has a slot for a flat blade screw driver, push in and pull the cover off. The thermistor will now slide behind the back panel. Check the bi-metal for buldging. As long as the evaporator fan is working, it's probably a defrost problem.

SOURCE: Amana Side-by-Side refrigerator hot spot

hi tanks for the question there are heaters at the spots you said were hot and those heaters are there to prevent moist air from hitting cold surface and create warer droplets from forming on those surfaces i would remove the back of the fridge and vacuum it out that should solve your problem thanks the appliance doc

SOURCE: Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.
Have a look at this site for some useful trouble shooting

7 year old refridgerator not getting cold enough. Thawing in freezer. Should the condenser be hot/warm to the touch? Is there a re-set?

Hello,

The condersor coil will be very warm to hot..not so much so it will burn you, yet very warm..the things that will make it very overly warm is if its clogged with dust or the condenser fan motor isnt running all the time the compressor is on. But it will normally be warm all the time the compressor is running..that heat is whats being removed from inside (the way refrigs. work is they remove the heat so when the heat is gone only cold is left)

Freezer and fridge cooling but freezer not freezing and fridge not cold enough

Hello,
Their are a couple things that could be causing that.

The conderser coils under the kickplate below the doors is clogged with dust. Remove the kickplate and check/clean using a refrigerator coil brush that could be purchased from your local hardware store (Lowe's HomeDepot Ace hardware)

The condenser fan motor behind the refrig., behind the lower service plate directly next to the compressor isn't running and needs to be replaced.

Good luck,i hope this helps you to get your refrig back to cold,

Refrig and freezer not getting cold

HI, Can you hear the compressor running? Does it click like something is trying to start but can't? It sounds like the compressor is not running. The compressor should have a 5 year warranty. They are having problems with these compressors so, you might want to call Amana and see if it is under warranty. I hope this gives you some help. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
