Cannot figure how to run a test page for FAX

Everything I have read says to go to the Control Panel and run Setup. I am running Windows Vista and cannot find a setup icon.

Open the HP Solution Center then click on the "Settings" icon at the bottom of the window.

Look under the Fax settings area and click on the button that says "More Fax settings".

The last 2 options, "Test Fax Setup" and "Fax to PC Setup Wizard" should help you out in verifying your fax capabilities are setup correctly.

Fax driver missing


Microsoft Office 2010 has a feature that lets you send Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files as Internet faxes. This feature relies on having the Windows Fax Printer Driver or Fax Services installed on the computer to send the faxes. The Windows Fax feature is not enabled by default for all editions of Windows. If your edition of Windows includes the driver or service, you must install it before you can send Internet faxes.

How to test, and setup the Fax machine on HP multifunctional printers.


Hi.


Please follow the instructions below to install and test the fax on an HP multifunctional unit.

1 - before connecting the printer install the software in the CD provided with the printer on the computer. The fax unit will also work in stand alone mode, but without installing the software you will not be able to control the unit from the connected computer.

2 - Have ready a phone cable. Ensure that the phone cable that you want to use has only two connectors:

3 - Connect one end of the telephone cord to the telephone jack andthen connect the other end of the cord to the socket labeled 1-Line on the back of the HP fax printer.

4 - The multifunction HP is now ready to send and receive Fax.


To send a basic fax:

1. Load your originals.
2. Enter the fax number by using the dial button on keypad.
3. Press START FAX Black.If the device detects an original loaded inthe automatic document feeder, it will send the document to the numberyou entered

If the Fax is not sending, then check that the original is loaded properly, then run the fax test following procedure below:

  1. press Setup
  2. select Tools
  3. select Run fax test
  4. press OK
Or:

  1. Load the original into the input tray.
  2. Press the Setup button (the one with a wrench) on the unit control panel.
  3. Press right arrow, select Tools, then press OK.
  4. On the Tools menu, press the right arrow to select Run Fax Test, and then press OK. The fax diagnostic test prints.
  5. Review the report.
If the test does not return ALL PASS , then setup the fax manually.

Change the HP fax settings
  1. Disconnect the telephone cord from the single-line telephone and then plug it into the port marked 1-Line at the back of the HP product.
  2. Press the Setup button (the one with a wrench) on the product control panel.
  3. Press the right arrow to select Basic Fax Setup or Advanced Fax Setup, then press the right arrow again to change settings to the settings listed in the table below.

After verifying Fax settings, try again sending a fax.

If still no luck, try calling the HP number listed on your user manual. In that case there may be a fault.

Also ensure that you do not have a VOIP phone rather than a landline phone, in that case setup will be completely different.

I keep getting error message 388 whenever I fax to any number. I have been able to receive faxes. My all in one is an HP officejet pro L7580


Hi there,

You probably need to run the fax test to check if the fax mechanism is working fine.

Click on Setup Button ( ranch like symbol ) on the printer front panel.
Scroll down till you find Tools ( press ok )
Check for Run Fax Test ( Press OK )
It will print the test results and everything should pass.

To solve your fax issue, follow the steps below.

Click on Setup Button
Check for Advanced Fax Setup ( or Basic Fax Setup ) - Press OK
Look for ECM ( Error correction mode ) - Press OK
Turn the ECM OFF

Try to send fax. It Should work.

The fax appears to dial the number successfully. The receiving fax is turned on. It apprears to try for a long time. The error report says "no answer."


It is not your fax line is the other party.did you try any other number?

Step two: Change the cable to the correct port Make sure the telephone cable is inserted in the correct port. Remove the cord for the fax line from the port labeled with a telephone, and then insert it into the correct port. Solution: Check paper size This product only supports paper less than 381 mm (15 in). Use only letter, A4, or legal sized paper for sending faxes. Will not send or recive fax


To test the fax setup from the product control panel, follow these steps.
  1. Press the power button (c01658021.gif ) to turn off the HP fax product.
  2. Wait 20 seconds and then press the power button (c01658021.gif ) to turn on the HP fax product.
  3. Connect one end of a two-wire telephone cord to the telephone jack and connect the other end of the cord to the port labeled 1-Line on the back of the HP fax product.   4. Make sure that there is plain white paper in the input tray.

If the HP fax product still cannot receive a fax, go to "Solution two: Make sure that the Auto Answer feature is turned on."
    • If the test does not show faxing issues and solutions, the fax test passed. Continue to the next solution.

We keep getting an error code 344* when we are trying to transmit a fax. What can we do to fix this?


Error 344 means :-

The remote machine has failed to respond to a fax command from the product because the connection is interrupted.
The remote user has pressed the Stop button while the remote machine was receiving.
Under rare conditions, incompatibility between the two machines can cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

Solutions :-
  1. Attempt to send the fax again when telephone-line conditions have improved.
  2. If the fax session was using error correction, disable ECM.
To disable ECM Press :-
  1. Press Setup .
  2. Press the Down arrow (c00326489.gif ) repeatedly until Advanced Fax Setup displays.
  3. Press OK .
  4. Press the Down arrow (c00326489.gif ) until Error Correction Mode displays.
  5. Press OK .
  6. Press the Right arrow (> ) until either OFF or ON displays.
  7. Press OK .
  8. Send another fax to verify that the ECM is enabled or disabled.
Check the Phone Cable connected with the printer.
Make sure the Cable should be connected to line 1 port at the back of the printer and it should be going directly from the printer to the wall jack and not to the Serj protector.

Try to print a fax test page.
  1. On the control panel of the product, press the Setup button (c01361401.gif ).
  2. Press the Right Arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Tools , and then press OK .
  3. Press the Right Arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Run Fax Test , and then press OK . The product displays the test results on the control panel display and prints the Fax Test Report.
Now Do this :-
  1. Send a one page black and white text fax to 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).
  2. When your fax is received by the HP Test Fax Service, we will generate a return fax to you within five minutes confirming that we received your fax. This verifies that you can both send and receive a fax with your fax machine.
If you do not receive a return fax within 5-7 minutes, there may be a problem with the setup of your fax machine. Consult the user manual that came with the product for proper setup and configuration. Try the above steps and let me know if it works for you.

If using a VoIP digital line is necessary, changing the Fax Speed Adjustment setting to Medium might improve the ability to send a fax over a VoIP telephone line. Use these steps to change the fax speed adjustment to a lower speed.

Wont send fax


Hi,

Error 350: Under rare conditions incompatibility between the two machines may cause the remote machine to simply abandon the call.

Try these steps...

1. Press setup, then go to TOOLS.
2. press okay on TOOLS, then look for RUN FAX TEST. then press okay.
3. It will print a fax test page. Check if everything passed.
4. If it passed everything, try to press setup again, then go to ADVANCE FAX SETUP.
5. Scroll, down and look for ECM (Error correction mode), then press okay
6. Under ECM you will have to options "ON or OFF" try to choose OFF then press OKAY.
7. Now, try sending a fax.

Please let me know if the steps that i gave resolve your issue or not. So that i can still go ahead and give you another possible solution.

Lexmark 4580 wont print even though when installed it prints a test page. do you know of any common problems? running on windows vista


i just set up this printer two days ago - got the wireless indicator to finally go from orange to green (not sure how, it always said it was connected to my network and everything looked good when i had it print a wireless setup page)...
i've got it on a mac OSX and windows vista (the main reason i wanted wireless printing! two laptops in the household) - both are spotty on when the computer will connect and print - more often not than so.
it's driving me crazy, as i haven't had too much time to figure it out myself...
