Thanks for the suggestion. We did clean the plates and added more salt and still getting code 91.
This is the 3rd summer we have been using the salt generator and are now on our second machine, we won't be purchasing a 3rd. This is very disappointing because we really liked using the salt for many reasons but it looks like we will have to go back to using chemicals if we want to use our pool this season.
Overall we are very disappointed in this product.

91 means Low Salt. I have seen this occur if the salt level is actually too low as well as when the plates have a large amount of white crystals on them. If your plates look clean (I use a pressure washer to clean them), check the salt level using salt test strips you can get at a pool supply store.

While searching for a solution to a problem I was having I ran across this suggestion at this site:

    http://x.havuz.org/viewtopic.php?f=26&am...

    "Xlav8r wrote:Hey , the "CODE 91" fix was said a while back
regarding resistors. pull off cover carefully, both the flow sensor and
cell power cables exit the case making lifting the plastic case
difficult but manageable. look for three adjustable resisters, one
above the other. They are marked (or mine was) VR1, VR2,and VR3 on the
circuit board. they were black and about the diameter of a pencil
eraser with a small Philips (+) adjustable head. The head was locked
with glue? but it can be scraped off. The original suggestion said to
turn the VR1 resister a quarter turn CCW. This did not work for me but
I added an additional quarter turn CCW (now half a turn CCW) and it is
back working as it did originally. I will keep an eye on my salt
content to keep at 3000ppm as suggested in manual."

I have not tried this solution since I am not currently having this problem.

1st... Check your salt level consentration.. If okay... 2nd, Check you electrolytic cell, may be plugged with white flaky calcium stuff. The white calcium build-up on the cells will cause a low salt alam.

Bummer!!! Looks like you checked both things that would cause the code 91 error for "Low Salt". Here's what I've done to solve my low salt "91 code in the past.. I overshoot by 1/2 bag = 20lbs of the recommended salt add quantity when the code appears. Calculate by using this formula..
.0067 X Pool Gallons. I have a 14,000 gallon pool and when I get the 91 code for low salt, I add about 110 lbs of salt. Manual says 93 lbs...let it circulate for 24 hours by running the pump only and then start the chlorination cycle.. Before doing this, you MUST make sure the cell in clean.. If any calcium buildup inside, it can give you a false "Low Salt" alarm.

I hope this helps!!

Hello,
A few things to do or you will create your own problems.

First and for most you must filter for at least 12 hours after adding salt to distribute the salt completly

You can not just blindly ad salt like you said you added a bag.

Although the manuals have an amount of salt for different size pools it is just a starting point. It is up to you tp fine tune

you must get a salt test kit
the kind that reads #'s not color

Get your salt as close to 3000ppm as possible
any lower than 2700 and you will get a low salt alarm and you will also not be producing enough chlorine
any higher than 3500 and you can go cloudy, trigger high alarm, and the water will taste nasty
you can even trigger low salt with too much salt content
So remember 3000ppm

If you are higher than the 3500 then drain 20% water and fill with fresh
continue this until you get to close to 3000

If low follow directions for low salt either on the test directions or bag of salt

I have had my system for this being the 4th season and have never cleaned the cells

any way, when you get the pool to around 3000 filter only for about 12 hours then turn on your generator

It should work fine

We just replaced the T-cell for our pool. We were

Sound to me that you added wat to much salt.
If you are using a salt test kit that eads in colors throw it away and get a kit that reads in #.s
If you are using the one with #'s then proceed to getting your water to as close to 3000ppm as possible
Drain 20 % water ad fresh and check again keep doing this ti'll you get close to the 3000ppm

any lower than 2800 and you can read low salt and worse of all you will not produce enough chlorine any higher than 3500 and you will go cloudy and read high

It is my opinion that you were low salt and then adding to much salt put you to far to high

remeber anytime you add salt you should filter only for 12-24 hours to distribute the salt properly so the unit knows what it is reading

While adjusting your salt level clean your new cell with vinegar let it soak for a few hours You should have received a cap to cover one end of the cell while soaking
once cleaned it will not grab hold of the salt water until the generator is turned on

Just remeber 3000ppm

Registering low salt

Hello,
your pool has approximately 12,500 gallons of water
this calls for about 310 pounds of salt.
One of your problems can be the acis rain ate away at your salt content
You really need to get aalt test strip kit the kind that reads #'s not the colored strips
Get you salt to as close to 3000ppm as possible to low towards 2700 will throw off the alarm and also to high around 3800 and up will alarm also.
It is also possible to have to much salt and the unit will read 91

Get the pool to 3000ppm either by draining 20% or so and adding fresh water or adding salt which with your amount so far I am thinking you will need to lower it

Run filter only to thouroughly mix the pool for at least 24 hours before trying to generate chlorine.
In the meantime also take your electro cell and soak it in vinegar for 4-6 hours rinse well and put it back together

Code 91

If you have hard water in your location you may want to try cleaning the electrolytic plate. I had the same issue where no matter how much salt was added I had code 91. I shut the water down going through the filter / generator. Pulled the outlet hose off and put on a cap. Pulled copper cell out and filled chamber with vinegar. Put cell back in and let set for 1 hour. Fluhed it out and hooked everything back up. Nop more salt problems. The process is in the book.

Low salt

Same here, been getting the 91 code, 3 times in last 1 1/2 weeks. Added salt. Came on today, so I checked titanium plates and they were half clogged with white stuff. DO NOT ADD SALT just because 91 code is on, which I have done. . You need to check plates and clean if clogged, with hose and some pressure. I used a plastic wire tie to clean, do not use metal item to clean plates, you'll scratch the plates and ruin them. Mine was clogged on 2 plates full length.
