Question about HP Scanjet 4470c Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

No power Power adaptor has no output voltage when plugged in. The scanner has no lights and does not work when connected to a working power adaptor. Does a scanner have any fuse inside?

Yes, mine was working fine then the next day it just up and died!!!

No light -- my computer won't recognize it.

I looked at the power cord and it says 12v so I don't think that is the problem.

It might be about six years old, can these things just up and quit with no warning?

Same problem. 7 years old scanner.

My scanner--HPScanjet 4470c-- just up and quit too. I am looking at the adapter as the problem, but I have no way of testing it. Shouldn't the adapter feel warm when plugged in? My power switch on this scanner never seemed to work corretly, and I remember turning it off a few weeks ago to save electricity (going green). I am not sure if that is what did it, but it will not turn back on. I am also suspecting the power adapter. Let me know if you find solutions. I am very little hours on this scanner and am not ready to ditch it.

To turn off my scanner, I've always had to go to the program and click exit, then push to off button. I got lazy and quit doing it. Did it again a few days ago, and now I cannot get the scanner turned on. Same problem as everyone else.

Same problem, too. It must be that planned obsolescence. HP wants $125 for a replacement - right! I got one at a surplus electronic store for $12.95. Make sure it is 12V and at least 1250 mA.

Check if the adaptor is working fine. Use a multimeter to check the voltage output from the adaptor.

If the adaptor is working fine, please add a comment to the question.

I lost my GE Ultrasonic 2.1 Speaker power adapter and i need need ones but i dont know what to buy, the voltage it requires..6 or 9 volts?

at most electrical stores you can buy a universal power adaptors with a selection of socents to fit most connections. and which has a selector on it for various voltages settings.
take one of the little connectors and see which one fits. then checking the polarity on your device set the polarity the same when plugging the connector into the power supply cable. adjust voltage as needed.

Warning: when connecting a variable power adaptor alway connect on the lowest voltage setting and work up as too high voltage can distroy your appliance.

No power from ac adaptor

No, there are no reset button or fuse in these laptop adapters, they are a sealed unit. The lead/plug maybe broken at the plug. Test the voltage at the plug with a multi-meter, the output voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. I suggest you get a quote first.

Can 15 volt power adaptor be used on an 18volt scanner?

you dont have other choice, how about to buy an multi plug-in adaptor from 3V up to 23V can manage the voltage of your scanner, but if not this 15volts can support your scanner..

Ac power doesnt work only in battery mode, adaptor output is ok

sounds like the power connector (where you plug into pc) is going bad. try twisting / wiggling connector. pause for a few seconds between twists to give circuitry chance to reconize power input. sometimes there is a green led that will light up when power adaptor is inserted. you can use that as a reference.

Trying to get the laptop to just work on power not battery.

Plug in your power cord from the laptop to an electrical outlet. Your battery is dead and/or needs recharged.

Modem power adaptor

On the bottom of the Modem, it usually lists the type of voltage/current ratio, for example, My modem is a 12VDC in, output is .75A Through the modem. Each modem has its own power requirements. Therefore if they dont match, you have the chance of either underpower (which means no use) or overpowering (and killing your modem permanently)

Best suggestion si the same as above by cnavarro, Buy the Right power supply for it, dont just try anything. get the matching one. Otherwise it will be Incident A or Incident B. Neither would work well, and you would end up buying a new modem all together.
