When you connected, did it ask you for a password? If not then it's obviously unsecured. Here's how to fix that... i have the same router.
On XP... open internet explorer... in the address bar, type in: 192.168.1.1

On vista.... click start menu...click on network...right click on router and select properties. Next, click on the "Network Device" tab at top of the new window. You will then see "Device Webpage"... click on the ip address to the right of that underlined in blue. It should ask you for a password... if you haven't set one manually the user is admin and the password is also admin. I recommend changing that to a manual password ASAP. Ok, after logging in, now you have the router's set up page in your web browser.
To make it secure:
On the set up page you now have open... you have a few selections that act like tabs: Setup, Wireless, Security, Access Restrictions, etc... Click on Wireless. After clicking on that, you have some tabs underneath wireless you can click on now.
Those selections should be: Basic wireless settings, Wireless security, Wireless MAC Filter, etc... Click on Wireless Security. There you should see disabled on the first drop down. Pick a WEP, WPA or whatever you prefer. I personnally use WEP with 64bit 10 hex and for the password, i use a 10 digit number.
After you have set up your password and security, click save settings at the bottom. After it's done processing the save, you can close the web browser. You are good to go now.
By the way, I recommended changing your password to access the router's set up page. Make absolutely sure you save that username/password in a safe location. If you forget it, there is nothing linksys can do to help you. I know from experience unfortunately.
Hope all this helped... Good Luck

Hi,

The connection unsecured means anyone can connect to the wireless router just by scanning without giving any password.....

Inorder to make it secure there are three dufferent waysm they are explained as follows...

1} DISABLING SSID BROADCAST

All Linksys routers have a built-in web-based setup page that allows the user to customize settings and set up advanced properties.
Note: Before accessing the router's web-based setup page, make sure the router is powered on and the computer is wired to one of the Ethernet ports on the router (1, 2, 3 or 4).
Accessing the Router's Web-Based Setup Page
Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP Address ("192.168.15.1" is the default IP of most Linksys VOIP routers) then press [Enter]. or 192.168.0.1
Note: If the IP address of the router has been changed, type the router's IP address in the Address bar instead.
The router's IP address can be changed by:
  • Running the router's setup CD.
  • Changing it on the router's web-based setup page.
If you forgot the router's IP address you can:
  • Check the router's IP address.
  • Press the Reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds.
Note: This procedure will reset your router to factory defaults. Any settings on the router will be erased. The router's IP address will be "192.168.15.1" and the password will be "admin" after resetting.
Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Type "admin" for User name and Password ("admin" is the default user name password), then click OK.
Note: If the password of the router has been changed, type the router's new password in the Password field instead.
The router's password can be changed by:
  • Running the router's setup CD.
  • Changing it on the router's web-based setup page.
If you are encountering problems access the router's web-based setup page, click Disabling SSID Broadcast
Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here.
Step 2:
When the router's web-based setup page appears, click Wireless then look for Wireless SSID Broadcast and select Disable.
Step 3:
Click .
Step 4:
Reconnect to your wireless network by creating a profile on the wireless computer's configuration utility.
If this is done you have to manually, type the SSID to connect to the network other people cant see the network..

2}USING ENCRYPTION KEYS

In the WIRELESS SECURITY tab in the router page, you can enable either WEP(Older form of security ) or WPA newer onr... Enabling these two things will ask user to set password, which may be asked while connecting to the router

These are the way to make the connection secure

type the address of your router into your address bar of your internet page. Most router's are 192.168.1.1
This will access your router. If you get a username and password request., type admin for both username and password. Then go to
Wireless Lan, then go and set you password. Write it all down before you hit save.
