Check to make sure toner and drum are completely seated. Remove them both, look for anything in the way, and replace them. Also check to see that the waste toner return path from the drum into the cartridge is clear and not packed full of toner.

Could also be a damaged fuser drive gear. 4 screws and a wire remove the fuser (wait to cool) and you can inspect the fuser drive gear. (Turn off, unplug, and wait to cool. Fuser runs at about 185 degrees F.

Open control panel on your personal computer where the printer is installed. Click the printer and faxes. Then right click on the icon of your printer and click properties. Then click the maintenance Click the Bottom Plate Cleaning. If the noise is still there after you clean the bottom Plate. Clean the Roller. And look inside your printer if there is something that blocking the roller.

Recieving fax error

It could be a bad drum unit. If the drum doesnt turn smoothly it will make a clicking or grinding noise since it is gear driven. Take out the drum and turn the gear with your thumb. turm towards you. If difficult Thats it. It also could be a fuser gear. good luck Lawrence

Outgoing fax makes loud clicking noise

2 different problems here. 1st is with document feed and 2 is with paper feed.

1st prob seems to be with the paper feed roller not meshing at the gear. Probably a broken piece on the lower document tray assembly. No real fix for this unless you can strip it out and haywire it.

2nd prob is probably a poorly meshing drum unit. Examine the gear teeth on both the drum and the machine. As you have replaced the drum already (presumably with a brand new one) You might possibly find a missing or badly worn tooth on the messhing gear in the machine.

Its clicking

Check and make sure that if you have something plugged into the fax/phone ports that it is installed correctly.  I had this noise when I accidentally put the usb cable into one of the ports.

Gears grinding with Brother Intellifax 4100

Does it only make the noise when printing. Do you hear the noise when sending out faxes? I have heard grinding noises onlt when using poor quality toner refills, or the fuser gear and or drive gear asm is stripped. First try a known good OEM toner.
