Check your router's IP address from the Compaq machine. Get a command prompt and type ipconfig .all Then wright down the IP settings. Check the IP settings of the Macbook Pro. Adjust settings. You can give a Static IP also. If needed. But you have to set the default gateway -Enter previouse IP settings for those. You should check to see if you have the connection set to static or to scan. Your computer could be set to scan, and so when it recieves a stronger signal, even if it is for a second, it will disconnect from the signal you have current. You can go to system preferences , select NETWORK, go to show, then AIRPORT, make sure your signal of choice is at the top of the list.
