Question about Apple iBook Mac Notebook

I-BOOK A1005 bootup problem

I am a IT company in South Africa. Have NEVER worked on MAC's ever.

A customer brought in their iBOOK A1005.

It makes the Chime sound and after a while the monitor shows the APPLE image but nothing after that. It either blacks out or stays like that.

There are some black lines flashing (sometimes) like when a Windows machines do when the graphics display card is shot.

Would it be the Hard Drive that has packed up ? (thats what I gather but then again I do not know MAC machines

Thank You

If its a pale blue screen with a really old looking graphic of an apple logo then that means it is not finding a bootable device

I have thought that the pale screen with the apple was because of the fact that it could not find the hard drive or operating sysatem. Thank You... You have confirmed it and it helped me wonderfully. I then took the computer apart and found the hard drive. Took it out and reconnected it. Then.. before I put it all together again I tested the machine and WHALLA!!! it came on beautifully.

I do now however have another problem with the same i-BOOK A1005 laptop. One I put it all togther again I can hear the machine bootup but the screen stays blank. When I take it apart the screen works again. What would be the cause of that ?

If you have forgotten your code, you will need the OSX disk to reinstall.

This will wipe all your files though, if you need to save the files you will have to take the computer to a repairer.

Hope this helps!

A1005 Battery and power supply fine - but not starting

A1005 is an inexact marketing identifier covering pretty much the entire line of G3 iBooks.
Complete failure to start -- unless it is caused by something trivial like a broken start button -- without any startup or error tones, points to basic logic board failure. A machine this stone dead for no apparent reason is unlikely to be revived, and almost certainly not by third-world techs who don't know Macs. It is debatably cost-effective to resuscitate a sub-GHz G3 iBook from such a failure, compared to replacing the unit with another new or used Mac. The drive in the old Mac can be extracted so as to preserve your data, and can be inserted into an external USB or FireWire case to be accessible to a new Mac.

Model A1005 mac ibook

When you say recovery disk I assume you mean the main OS disk. A recovery disk on a mac generally is one you would make as a back up. Depending on the OS you used you would need to get a new one. These you can pick up from eBay pretty cheaply, both OS9 and OSX10.4.

All the best
