Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

2 Answers

Air conditioner runs approx. two minutes before shutting off. It stays off for about 12 minutes before recycling on. By this time, in south Louisiana's heat which ranges from 78 degrees at night to near 100 daytime, the camper becomes uncomfortably warm. I have a Mod. 640312.301 mounted on a 2010 R-Pod. Is there something I can do to shorten the cycling time.

Kevin, thanks for your reply. However, I should have mentioned the following: (1) The A/C unit is only a week old (today). I realize that a relay can be defective, but so soon? (2) The thermostat is in the unit (not remote). I have been thinking along this line. I know that on some home window units, manufacturers clip the thermostat capillary to the cooling coils which causes the unit's compressor to cycle frequently. Can I move the thermostat capillary in the Dometic unit, away from the cooling coils?

    Thanks,

    Cruz

There should be a setting on the air con that will let you change the cycling time, if not then that means that it is working at its Full Capacity and will not be-able to do more.

This could happen because of differant reasons.
Get the relay checked , commonly seen a bad bad relay can caues the same.
Make sure the filter is clean ,then check the evaporator coils(cold) to make sure air can flow through without resistance.
then check the condenser coils(hot) make sure the fins are clean and not bent.
check the location of the thermostat is cold air blowing on it because it's too near a cooling vent? if so relocate it away from drafts ,if the thermostat cools before you do you will be hot when it turns off.same in winter if the thermostat gets hot because heat blows on it ,it will knock off before the room heats.

Hope this helps
Thanks

bad compressor relay on control board. The relay is not opening the circuit, allowing the compressor to stay running when unit is turned off. This overheats the compressor and opens a thermal disk shutting the compressor off. When thermal disk cools down, the compressor restarts under load and trips breaker.

Air handler only blows air for 3-5 minutes before shut off & not cycling frequently

Sounds like it could be a very weak run capacitor on the blower motor. Run capacitors are sized specifically to the needs of the motor. When a run cap gets weak, the motor trys to compensate for it by drawing more power. More power draw = more heat in the motor, then the motor will overheat and shut off to protect itself. When the motor cools off it will automatically restart and run until it overheats again. Keep in mind that I am a technician that normally diagnoses equipment in a hands on manner. There are many practices and concepts that transcend all air conditioning systems but it is a constantly evolving industry. I live in south eastern WA and I don't see Amana units except as window units. It is possible to have something else causing this problem (faulty thermostat, failing thermal relay(if used), problem with electronic controls(if used)) there are a lot of potential variables

NewAir AirConditioner on "Dehumidifier" Mode Only

I have a 3 ton a/c system that removes about 5-6 gallons of water from the air per day. Most portable dehumidifiers/air-conditioners rate at approx 1/2 to 3/4 of a ton. Your water output is pretty much normal.
