Hardware Drivers Backup

I am about to either replace or reformat the HDD on my laptop.
Anyway the HDD need a clean up.
I purchased this laptop(secondhand) a few years back but did not get the drivers cd.
I also know I can get them from the Dell website but which ones, there are 64 of them and I don't need them all.

I know I need to backup the hardware drivers, but do not know:
1.: How to find/locate all of them?
2.: How then to proceed to back them up to an external HDD?

I know I can buy recovery disks from various suppliers, but by backing up I will know I have the correct drivers for this machine.

Regards
Mike Vaughan

You can find all the necessary drivers for your laptop here "http://supportapj.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=in&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_P3C_C600&os=WNT5&osl=en&catid=&impid=" select the Operating System you use, download the most common or important ones like "Audio, video,LAN" to some external drive like pen drives or so.
Then you can proceed with reformatting your HDD.
If the above link does no work , try this one "http://www.dell.com/"

click "Drivers & Downloads" located below, choose your appropriate product then the OS and proceed with the downloads..

I doubt there are 64 drivers, if you read the descriptions carefully there will be applications and services, ur right about there being more drivers than you need as dell usually have a few diffrnt versions of each model, it wont cause any problems to download the wrong ones and try it will simply tell you it cannot find the correct hardware, shouldnt take you too long to download all the drivers, if you do all your windows updates before you look for drivers windows will probably find and install most drivers for you! if its an oldish laptop i wouldnt be supprised if windows found and installed all of them.

I would like to erase my hard drive and make my laptop new again how can I do that

Most laptops come with a "recovery" disc or feature which allows you to restore the laptop to its original factory condition. This will often include erasing everything on the hard drive (HDD) and reinstalling the original operating system and included software. In most cases anything you've saved to the HDD will be lost unless you make a backup first.

Another option is to use a Windows installation disc. When the disc is inserted (or if you boot from the disc) you will have the option of reinstalling Windows. You will be warned that all data on the HDD will be lost in the process. If you choose to continue Windows will reformat the HDD and perform a clean installation.

Choosing the option to reinstall Windows from a Windows disc may require an active internet connection or you may need to provide drivers in order for certain laptop hardware to perform correctly or be recognized by Windows. It is also important to choose a version of Windows which your laptop is capable of running.

0xcooooooe error

This error may occur if the registry entries and the drivers for the mass storage controller hardware in the backup computer are not installed in Windows. Download any reliable program like I always use Reginout to fix such errors by using its Repair Registry feature. And update drivers.

I need to reboot my laptop but i dont have any drivers to put back into it when iv reboot it

Good Day,

If you mean you want to reformat your laptop and dont have any drivers for all the hardware, the best thing to do is to download the drivermagician software.. But using this you must not install different operating system.

Download from here and backup drivers or clone drivers..

Reformat laptop

To reformat Hard Disc Drive you can use software from the hard disc manufacturer. For example Maxtor, Seagate, Toshiba, Hitachi or Western Digital. Usually your HDD will be made by one of those. It's downloadable free and can be burnt to a CD. Alternatively use a Windows installation CD. If you want to reformat all data will be lost so you'll need to reinstall Windows (or another Operating System) anyway.

Remember that you'll have to get the drivers for that particular model of laptop and install those too, that could be difficult to do unless you have the driver CD that came with the laptop.

How to reformat laptop

  • 1

If you have the recovery cd, you can just pop-in the CD, select the reformat option and the installation process will continue automatically. Some laptop might have a special partition in the drive contains the operating system, drivers, etc. in case you want to reformat your laptop without the CD.

If you don't have the recovery CD, you usually can request one from the manufacturer. Otherwise, if you want to do a clean install, make sure you download all the drivers for your laptop, this may includes: motherboard, chipset, graphic card, sound card, modem, network card. Once you do that, put in the OS CD and start installing.

If you decided to do a clean install without the recovery CD, it would be best to create partition on your harddrive first, so you can have dedicated partition for operating system and backup. The next time you want to reformat your harddrive, you can just reformat that particular partition ex. C:\

    How to reformat my laptop

    2. Step 2 If you don't have the recovery CD, you usually can request one from the manufacturer. Otherwise, if you want to do a clean install, make sure you download all the drivers for your laptop, this may includes: motherboard, chipset, graphic card, sound card, modem, network card. Step 3 If you decided to do a clean install without the recovery CD, it would be best to create partition on your harddrive first, so you can have dedicated partition for operating system and backup. The next time you want to reformat your harddrive, you can just reformat that particular partition ex. C:\
    4. Step 4 After the reformatting process finished and you have installed a new clean OS. Install drivers one by one and restart when it's required. Try to do it in order from basic function -> secondary ex. motherboard, chipset, graphic, sound, modem, networking, etc.
    5. Step 5 Install back all programs that you might need. If you already backup the installation programs or have the installation CDs handy, you can do this pretty fast.
    6. Step 6 Rearrange the look and customize your new operating system, refer to the screenshot you have taken earlier before the reformatting process begin if you want to get the same look and feel.

If you have linksys hardware install the cd that came with hardware and get to linksys website and download latest driver. Reformatted cleans drive to zip data and you needed to reload XP to get it going so anything you installed after the system purchase you will have to reinstall.

Vista to xp so want drivers for xp for cq-45 106au

how many drivers you need really depends what hardware is included on your XP install disc. The link to your laptop's drivers is here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=in&product=3781150〈=en&
you may need to download all the drivers in XP section.
The safest way to approach this is to change the HDD with a spare one to test if you have any. From the specs on hp site, it's safe to skip this and go ahead to reformat the laptop and install XP. Good luck!

I need instructions on how to use purchased external storage unit purchased, no instructions included

Because the reformat or restore process erases everything on your computer, it is critical to have a backup of any important files on your computer. You will also need your original software install disks to reinstall any software you have purchased.
    • Write down or print out all notes and internet pages because once the format process begins, you will no longer have access to them (or anything else in the PC)
    • As already stated, BACKUP all important files and data! When you reformat your computer everything will be erased!
    • Make sure you have all the CDs and other software. All programs will have to be reinstalled after you format the hard drive. Don't forget about software that came with hardware such as printers, scanners, etc.
    • Write down the brand and information for all the hardware on your computer. Look in the Device Manager and make note of the brand and model of network adaptors, video cards, sound cards, printers, modems, and displays. After reformatting you might need this information to reinstall drivers. You might want to read from this site http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348
