Question about Zebra S4M Thermal Label Printer

Please help. Printer not printing. Urgently...!!!

My band new S4M barcode printer comes with a CD containing the Zebra Designer Pro. This is the program for making and editing labels. When I go to the "print" button it opens that dialog box that you normally use for "saving". No matter if I accept or cancel, it just doesn't print it. Then I realized the program on the CD is just a demo, so I downloaded the full version from the web but still is the same.

It does print the configuration labels

Now I am considering the idea that the paper I use is not configurated, but I don't know its name.

Description: two dog-tag like labels aligned horizontally side by side. They are 50mm horizontally and 30mm vertically. There is a 3mm in between vertically and 4mm in between horizontally.

The CD contains 2 versions of Zdesigner.

Zdesigner. This is a fully functional label design software package.

AND

Zdesigner Pro. (This is a Demo version) and it works but corrupts data output. This would allow you to print but the print would be garbled.

There is only one real difference between these 2 packages.

Database connectivity.

BUT it sounds like you have bought Zdesigner Pro. If this is the case you must enter the serial number included (activation code - Inside the CD case) otherwise it will not allow you to print.

Sounds like you chose print to file for the port in the driver instead of what it should be set for. comm for serial cables. lpt1 for parallel, usb for usb. by having it set the way you do it is told to save the code. goto printers and faxes and right click on the zdesigner print driver and chose properties. then click the ports tab and chose the correct port.

Gaps in barcode with Zebra S4M

The gaps run in the direction of the label feed? You have a bad printhead. Bad dots on the printhead prevent it from printing your format in the areas that you see the blank lines.
There is no easy fix other than replacing the printhead. You can prevent (or actually prolong the time between failures) in the future by periodically cleaning your printhead. It's recommended that you clean the printhead after every roll of labels. The printhead is underneath the hinged assembly. Over time, ribbon or adhesive from the labels builds up and causes dots to go bad - creating the blank lines you see. Clean your new printhead with rubbing alcohol.

Gaps in barcode with Zebra S4M

By gaps, do you mean a "void" area ? Over time, the elements on the printhead will wear down and finally they won't transfer heat to the ribbon. This causes a gap or void area. Usually the elements go out one or two at a time. If the area that is worn out is supposed to be printing bars for the barcode, this will cause the scanning problem you are experiencing.

The best way to see if elements are worn out is to design a label that has a thick solid black line across the label or a solid black box. You will see white vertical lines in the areas where elements are worn out. Another method would be to use the widest and longest label you have and print a 'pause" test label. This is done by turning off the printer, pressing and holding on the PAUSE key while turning on the printer. Hold the pause key for 10-15 seconds and when the printer is done with it's power on self test, it will start printing out a test pattern label which includes a nice black area where you can look for the white vertical lines.

Hope that helps !

I have a Zebra S4M printer and it has always printed fine. I downloaded Zebradesigner software to be able to create a label, but i am having trouble setting up the printer through the Zebra Designer...

you need to load the zdesigner driver from the zebra website, the older zebra universial wont work with zebra designer that why you can't pick it.

http://www.zebra.com/id/products/global/en/drivers/barcode/zd_driver_1_4_52.DriverFile.File.tmp/ZD1510Certified.exe?dvar1=Drivers&dvar2=Zebra Designer Driver (32 bit/64 bit, Windows Certified) &dvar3=50

Cut and paste the whole link and paste into the address bar of your web browser or just goto zebra.com and click drivers and downloads.

Zebra S4M Lable Printer Not Scanning

You might want to check the barcode ratio, bar width, printer speed and printer darkness. I am assuming that you are creating the barcode in some sort of label design package, correct? You either need wider bars, or make sure you have enough quiet zone on both sides of the barcode, so shrinking it might be the solution as well.
