The battery is weak. Repalce it.

Testimonial: "The batteries are brand new and they are not weak. I have tried all different kinds of batteries and none will work consistently. After taking one picture, the low battery icon lights up. I turn the camera off and then turn it back on and the low battery light is off and I can take another picture. Then the low battery light comes on again. It seems that the only way to use the camera is to turn it off after each picture is taken and then turn it back on again."

SOURCE: Low Batterie Sign

I had the same prolem. OK, try this. Try to discharge the AA batteries in some use, flashlight or else,,,,then recharge them, full charge, install the batteriers ...they should work fine....
I read somewhere that canon is able free of charge to correct a shortcircuit that the camera is susceptible to develop in the installation of batteries......But I hope the advise will work...
Remove batteries when not in use.

Hi!
If you're sure that the batteries are full, then the power board has to be changed. It's the first board under back cover, with the buttons on the other side of it. Contact your local Canon service center. If they ask very much, you can contact me toms.safranovs@gmail.com and I can give you a price - I have access to new Canon parts.

Make sure you are using Lithium batteries. Alkaline batteries will go dead immediately in this camera. I've tried it.

Don't use regular alkaline batteries (even though you can...) It's a pain to splurge for the more expensive lithium or photo-specific batteries, but they do last. I take A LOT of pictures with my A590, and can usually get several hundred shots out of a set of good batteries. Try Energizer's web site for a coupon, sometimes they have them available.

Use NMH type batteries standard batteries are not good enough for the write load that this camera draws. I think it recomjmends this in your manual if you still have it.

also dont use rechargables

I have had my Canon PowerShot A630 for several years and love it. However, lately the battery life has been very short (I use regular Akaline batteries.) Any advice about why this is happening would be...

These cameras eat batteries, I am sure they are all in collusion.. lol... seriously though, they are real hard on batteries, Alkaline batt's are OK, but usually only for high current drawing things, I wonder if the regular less expensive ones aren't just as good, they all seem to last about the same so I recommend using the cheapest ones available. There are some new batteries out new called Eneloop now these are real good batteries also you can recharge them. They are expensive but are worth it I feel.
have a look at them. http://www.sanyo.co.nz/gaia/eneloop

My camera seems to be drawing energy from the batteries even when it is off because when I put brand new betteries in, within 72 hours they appear dead. I have the Canon SX10 IS. The camera is 10 months...

I have had the same issue. However, it is not draining the batteries, it is telling you the batteries are low even though they are not.
Sorry I don't have an answer though. I have checked batteries after the camera told me they were low/unusable and found them to be fine.

Canon PowerShot A630 power problem: NiMH batteries no longer work

I dont agree, I have tried several different batterie types and the batteries are draining almost instantly with the camera and they are not actually being drained. I think the camera itself is at the end of its life...as I have used rechargeable batteries for the last few years and now they wont even show as being charged on the camera. It stinks Im in your same spot now...no batteries are lasting even the brand new lithium ones...it has nothing to do with the battery "juice" but something with the canon supply power not recognizing/recieving the juice. Im not a canon expert, but I think the problem is more than the battery here Steve and im confused at the solution as well.

Canon Powershot A630 problem

The LCD screen may be overtaxing your batteries, resulting in shutdown. Are you using alkaline batteries, or worse yet "super heavy duty" batteries? If so, some brands of regular batteries just don't have the power for more than a few pics in a digital camera. Some may even have problems just powering startup of the camera. Performance varies by brand and shelf life of the batteries (how long were they on the store shelf before you bought them? Their expiration date may be listed on the package.).

Digital cameras for the most part should only be used with rechargeable NiMH batteries. Many retailers sells these for around $7 for a package of four (about $15-19 for the batteries with charger). Keep in mind they'll save you big bucks in the long run over alkalines, AND they'll last for at least 100 pictures per charge (and probably many many more). You'll be very pleased with their performance, and may slap yourself for not buying them sooner. When at the store, look on the package for a power rating of at least 2500 mah.

Help pls

First of all, if you're not already using rechargeable batteries, recommend using rechargeable NiMH batteries over alkaline. Alkalines just don't have the oomph for today's digital cameras.

Here are some simple other things to try first for a camera that won't power on. They won't work for every case, but they're worth a try:

Battery drains quickly

"It shouldn't do that." But you already know that. Even with everything "on" in the camera it still shouldn't do that.

I think you need to try a) alkaline batteries and b) new NiMh batteries. If it still persists then your camera has a deeper problem and needs to be sent in for repair.
