OKI 5600 - Can you do a 'clean'?

Hi, My new OKI 5600 has just started to print blue stripes down the page that get darker the more pages i print in a continuous run. If I print in Greyscale, the problem disappears. Can you peform a 'clean' on this printer or is it something to do with the settings perhaps?

Its not a cleaning issue. Print loads on my 5600 and occasionally get the same problem.

You have a near life drum unit... one of your drums is either faulty or near needing replacement. If you have a set of old drums try them. I always keep the old ones as a back up

I get pale Yellow stripes on the paper, not on every page. Is this the drum? Can it be cleaned?

Hi I just got the same problem today. It started with yellow pale lines and now I have also blue lines. They are getting darker and darker. I also have then in horizontal and vertical. My drum life is 66% but i use my printer to print laser  transfers for tshirts. Could that make the life shorter that it appears.

Secret Manual is for a b/w Oki Fax 5600, quite different from the C5200 and C5600, but may be handy if someone looking needs one.

OKI Drums have a guaranteed if life is over 50%

Inside the drum cart. there is a blade that wipes the surface of this drum, these get worn and dont clean effectivly leaving a residual track on drum surface, Drums can be effected mainly by toner quality and poor paper quality causing excessive lint/abrasion.

When printing in greyscale all colour drum units are lifted away from print process, but any colour added they all come back into play.

Here's the 'secret' sevice manual:
I would also (very carefully) check for torn paper around the rollers of the imaging drum that might be rubbing the area.

Our C9800 Oki laser printer is printing images darker in colour on one side of the page to the other. It looks like it is printing with a lot more yellow on one side. If I send the paper short egde feed it...

What you have here is one of the LED print heads is not sitting correctly on the corresponding drum. Make sure the LED head is free to move and there is no foreign object sitting in/on the drum. Where it is darker the print will be fuzzy around the edges and that confirms what I have said.

Lines on print. There's are three lines on picture print only. Can't see the line on document. It's about 1/4 inch wide and going throught top to bottom.

Have ou gone into your menus. Into troubleshooting, then image quality.
You will want to run both the eliminate light stripes and eliminate smears procedures. that will purge the print head, blow air through the jets and hopefully resolve the problem. I do believe the 8550 has a Jet Substitutin procedure where you can do a workaround and make other jets make up for the light areas.
here are some directions, Will forward more

  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Troubleshooting Print Quality Page], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Evaluate the 'Light Stripes Test' page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. The 'Light Stripes Test' page is the last page of the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page that printed.

WARNING: To avoid injury, do not touch the sharp metal strip attached to the clear rubber wiper blade in the Maintenance Kit.

  5. Use a clean lint-free cloth or a new paper coffee filter to gently clean the maintenance unit's clear rubber wiper blade, use only a wiping motion across the entire length of the wiper blade, and then empty the waste tray. A dirty maintenance kit wiper blade can cause white lines and weak or missing printhead jets.

  6. 8500-wiper-blade-clean.jpg

  7. Repeat step 3 to reprint the Troubleshooting Print Quality Pages. If there are no missing or partially missing color bars then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are missing or partially missing color bars then the printhead cleaning procedure will need to be performed. Continue with the next section.
To clean the printhead using the basic eliminate light stripes procedure:
  1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button on the Control Panel to select [Troubleshooting] on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
  2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Print Quality Problems], and then press the [OK] button.
  3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Eliminate Light Stripes], and then press the [OK] button.
  4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Basic], and then press the [OK] button. The printer will perform a head cleaning, which will take about five minutes. The printer will then print a cleaning page and a light stripes test page.
  5. Repeat steps 1 - 4 one more time. If there are no weak or missing jets then the print quality problem has been resolved. If there are still weak or missing jets after two basic light stripe cleanings, continue with step 6.

NOTE: Do not try the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes Cleaning mode without performing two basic cleanings first.

To clean the printhead using the advanced eliminate light stripes procedure:

  6. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button to select [Advanced], and then press the [OK] button.
  7. Select the missing jet color and number. If necessary, check the light stripes test page to determine the color and jet number of the missing jet.

NOTE: Only perform the advanced light stripe cleaning once. If weak or missing jets still persist, continue with step 8.

  8. Print the Troubleshooting Print Quality Page. Evaluate the Light Stripes Test page for missing printhead jets, such as missing Cyan, Magenta, Yellow or Black color bars. If necessary, perform the basic eliminate light stripes procedure one more time. If the Advanced Eliminate Light Stripes procedure does not resolve the weak or missing jets, perform the Enable Jet Substitution Mode. See the Related Items below.

Incorect line of colour from one edge to the other

I am presuming the rest of the page prints the correct colour and this is an area in the direction of feed that is missing yellow. Try swapping the yellow and magenta drum positions and then the green text should come out a very dark blue colour. if it does then the fault is with the YELLOW drum, if there is still a noticeable Cyan stripe still then the fault will be with the LED head or engine control board.

Light print and leaves a blank stripe

Try the blue corona wire on top of the drum unit. If it is not right back to the left it will leave a line on every page.

Printing okay on left side but gets darker and blurrier towards right side of lines

Remove the toner cartridge and drum assembly together. Gently rock the assembly from end to end, as when installing a new toner cartridge. Then put the assembly back in place. This procedure worked for me. I'm guessing that I must have laid the toner and/or drum on its side, or perhaps upside down, when I was replacing the drum, and this was responsible for the problem.
