My ipod nano isnt playing any songs

i have an old ipod nano and wheni go to play a song it stays at 0:00. then when it does play it plays for a couple secs and then skipd and goes to the next song. i have over 100 songs on my ipod and i can only get about 3 songs to actually play all the way through
