Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.
If you have another battery definitely give it a try, most likely it won't work either. The problem is probably the fuse located on the DC/DC board that has 'blown' causing there to be no power. Replace the board and the camera should work fine. Canon will probably charge $175 or so for the repair.
Its
not a problem with the battery, the G7 and the G9 have a problem where a
loose screw inside the camera shorts it out and causes it to not power.
The repair service is about $85 total for a new part, installation and
return shipping of the camera!
