Problem for Samsung DVD-R130 DVD Recorder

Samsung DVD-R130 will not load dvds, but will play CDs

I have had this less than a year. It used to work fine. It started having problems more and more often reading discs, even when they weren't dirty. I have run a lens cleaner CD numerous times, and it seems to load and play CDs with no problem. But it will no longer load any DVDs I have tried, it tries to load, and then spits it back out saying that the disc cannot be read.

I've gone through two of these machines in less than a year. They exhanged the first one because it stopped loading after a few weeks...the second one stopped loading dvd's after about 6 months. Now I'm out the money. Sounds like they must know this is a defect.

I was given a replacement, and guess what, after less than 6 month it too doesn't load. It's an obvious manufacturer defect. Won't buy Samsung junk anymore.

I am having the same problem with my dvd-r. It appears to record but when I try to playback the dvd it says please check disc. I know the discs are fine, I just purchased them. I called Samsung too. My recorder is less than a year old, so they said my warranty covers the parts but they would charge nearly $70 for the labor to repair it. This is my second time purchasing a Samsung the last one was a player and did the same thing. I figured it was cheaper to buy one with the recorder than to get the player fixed and try to buy a recorder separate. Anyway, now here I sit with two that do not work anymore. I do not plan on purchasing Samsung products in the future!

Add me to the list - my machine no longer reads regular dvds or dvd-r that I recorded. To make it worse the new Sony I bought does not read these dvd-r although it does record and play in that format? So I lost these recordings unless I can find some model that plays this verson of dvd-r - (i always thought dvd-r was a standard format?) The machine is a piece - was nice while it lasted for about 6 months - then would have to load the disc over and over after 10 tries it would read - now it reads nothing.

I have had this problem too; apparently it’s to do with the laser head alignment, but if when I put the disc; as the disc try go in, I hold the flap down and as the disc being read, I put my small finger inside the slot and gently push the tray in a bit more. This seams to solve my problem. Good luck and make sure you wont get your finger jammed:-)

The problem can be solved in the following manner:
1) Purchase 20 lbs sledge hammer
2) Carefully align Samsung R130 between feet
3) Take 2 steps back
4) Raise 20 lbs sledge hammer over head
5) Bring down with full force
6) Repeat
This may not repair it but I guarantee you will feel better.

I gave up on recording any more DVD's so just used it to view. Now it will not eject the last DVD I inserted (commercial DVD, not a recorded one). Totally stuck, will not eject at all. I may open it up just so i don't loose the disc. After that, my solution is a SLEDGE HAMMER!!!

typical, I have the same problems with this stupid recorder ever since it was bought ( got it free with the TV). Sent it to Samsung repair centre recommended by their site and they upgraded the firmware.. and guess what!!! when they sent it back it still did not work - what a pile of ****. Updated the suggested firmware and it did bugger all. It's about time someone sue these people for producing i
tems that are not fit for purpose. Also any movies you record on any samsung players might not play on other recorders. much I found out after sending out 10 dvd's to customers.

Have exactly the same problem, now realise that mine probably lasted longer than many. If anyone is still running complaints would be happy to join in as our machine has hardly been used.

It wont play a brand new movie dvd. It is not a problem with dirt or scratches. It just spits them out.

Can not load dvd's - says there is an error loading disc

Comment by Guest, posted on Jan 28, 2008

Samsung DVD-R130, Used very little, right in the middle of movie, Jason Bourne leaping off of a building with bad guys shooting at him, DVD stops, says can't read disc, then drawer opens. Opened it up, cleaned it, put back together, does the same thing with all DVD disc. Any suggestions beside chunking it?

I have samsung DVD player (DVD-M108). It loads DVDs/CDs but does not read or takes too long. Then the display appears saying this disc cannot be played.

Had the R135 for less than a year, and probably burned less than 4 discs I've tried cleaning and using canned air, I'm pretty sure that the Loader Assembly is the culprit. In the past I've had OK luck with Samsung, but in the future will make them my last option.

We had the same problem. Got our Samsung R-130 for Xmas 2006. Now Xmas 2007 it no longer recognizes any discs - spits them out and says to check the disk. Even immaculate new movie DVDs do not work. It was a problem that developed over time - we thought it was scratched discs- we bought a cleaning disc and it was no good. I took it apart and cleaned all parts with ethanol and no improvements - so it's not an issue of dirtiness. The lack of support the rest of you received indicates Samsung is washing their hands of this rampant problem - very poor service. I'm never buying their crap again. What a waste! If anyone else figures it out please post - we would be very grateful.

i had mine for just over 3 months and it wouldn't load DVDs anymore. i really liked Samsung products but i am not too sure anymore I agree that they should do something about it.

I bought my Samsung DVD-R135 less than a year ago. It doesn't play DVDs anymore. I called Samsung, and they told me to buy a DVD cleaner, and I did, but it didn't help at all. So, I wasted more than $10.00 on a DVD cleaner for nothing. It is no longer playing DVDs. Samsung also told me it would be $70.00 for labor. After 3 months, labor is no longer included. I am thinking about filing a complaint with BBB. Would anyone else be interested in joining me?
thanks

I have the same problem with DVD R-130. It keeps on giving the Disc can not be played error while the same disc plays fine in my other DVD player. I have also contacted Samsung and their response was tthat hey ship more than million units and 1-2% are going to be defective. So much for customer service. Looks like that this is a design flaw if many folks are having the same issue.

Hello, I have the same DVD player and am experiencing the same exact problem. I cannot play any DVD's at all! It is extremely frustrating. Everytime we load a disc into the player, we get a message that says "disc cannot be played". I have tried to contact Samsung about this problem several times and they have been no help at all. They will not even provide you with a number for the corporate offices. I have had this player for under a year as well.
