How to Configure Belkin routers for Centurylink, Embarq, Bell sympatico, Bell...

How to Configure Belkin routers without installation CD for Centurylink, Embarq, Bell sympatico, Bell Canada ISPs ?
Configuring Belkin routers without installation CD for Centurylink, Embarq, Bell sympatico, Bell Canada ISPs :
  • Connect the Computer to the Router in one of the 4 ports named wired (usually grey in color) using an Ethernet cable.
  • Do not connect the modem to the router.
  • Open internet explorer / Firefox / chrome or any of your default web browser.
  • In the address bar type the default gateway address of Belkin router i.e., 192.168.2.1
  • Belkin router setup page (RSP) will be displayed.
f7dd033.jpg
Wired Part Configuration:
We need to configure the wired part by following these steps.
Step 1: You need to LOGIN to the router for making any changes. (No login password, just leave it blank and click SUBMIT)
Step 2: Click on LAN settings (found on left side of RSP), change the IP address from 192.168.2.1 to 192.168.40.1 and save changes.
Step 3: Now Connect the DSL Modem to Router in the port named Modem (usually yellow in color) using another Ethernet cable.
***Once you are done that, you need to re-login to RSP by typing the new IP address 192.168.40.1 in the address bar of web browser.

Step 4: Check for the internet status at the top right hand corner of RSP. If it is connected then the wired part is working perfect with the router (wired computers will go online). Need not follow the steps below, directly jump to wireless part configuration.
Step 5: If the Internet Status is not connected then, click on CONNECTION TYPE (found on left side of RSP), it has to be selected as DYNAMIC and click next. It will ask for HOST NAME, leave it blank or you can type anything there and click on APPLY CHANGES.
Step 6: Now check for the internet status at the top right hand corner of belkin RSP. If it says connected then everything for the wired part is configured perfectly. You can go ahead and configure for the wireless part.
If it is not connected then we need to do a network power cycle.

Steps to be followed for performing Network power cycle:
  • Unplug the power cable of both your modem and router.
  • Wait for 30 seconds.
  • Plug back the power cable of the modem and wait until all the lights are lit up in it.
  • Now plug back the power cable to the router and check for the lights in the router.
Modem & Internet lights will be lit and they will be solid (blue/green) in the router; it says that the Internet status is connected. Now you will be able to go online in the wired computers.

If still Modem & Internet lights are not solid in the router; it may be blinking in red/ amber it says that the Internet status is not connected. You will not be able to go online in the wired computers.

In this case you need to connect your computer directly to the modem and check whether you are able to go online. If you are not able to go online, then you need to contact your ISP and fix your issue with internet.

The above method is applicable only for Embarq, century link, Bell Sympatico, Bell Canada ISPs. Because these ISPs will have the IP address same as Belkin routers....

If nothing works then you need to contact your ISP and ask them to bridge the modem...Bridging the modem disables NAT in the modem and allows you to get a public IP in the modem.

I have a embarq 660 series router and using a compaq presario computer. I have already installed the belkin surf/share wireless USB adapter to this laptop. When I go to Internet explorer it says offline.

Every time i hook up the wireless router to the dsl router it doesnt find the internet ( its is a embarq 660 series dsl router and i have a belkin N1 wireless router)

the problem you are facing is due to the double nat issue(the embarq modem provides the ip address in the range of belkin router, that is 192.168.2.1)...hardwire the pc to the lan port of router.
login to the router setup page(type 192.168.2.1 in IE)
in router setup page, click on lan settings and change your lan ip to 192.168.5.1....the problem ll get resolved...if still the status is not connected, switch off the router and modem and switch on it after a minute....it ll get fixed

I have a Belkin mdl. f5d8236-4 v2that worked great

if ur internet service is embarq then u need to first unplug the modem from the router
because the embarq modem and belkin has the same ip address
so jus connect the computer alone to router and power on the router
then login to router setup page with 192.168.2.1 then on left side click on "LAN SETTINGS"
IT WILL ASK U FOR A PASSWORD THEN LEAVE IT BLANK AND CLICK SUBMIT
then change the lan ip to 192.168.5.1 and then click on apply changes then go ahead and click on OK
once it is done then plug ur modem to the router then unplug the powercord of router then plug it back again --- then u can have the modem and internet light to be solid --- then u can access the internet

This are some steps on how to setup your modem/router
New DSL Modem Available
Embarq is now shipping an updated version of the DSL Modem called the "660". It is smaller than the older model (645) and is much easier to setup.
A few years ago, Sprint/Embarq changed the way their servers communicate with the DSL modems. The new method is called DHCP, which is how the 660 modem works. The older 645 Modem used "PPPoE". So it's best to have the new 660 DSL modem.
The older 645 modem also had the same default IP address as the Linksys Router (192.168.1.1) - so you had to change one of the addresses to make them work together.
The new 660 DSL modem uses 192.168.2.1 as the default IP address. This does not conflict with the default IP address of the Linksys Router (192.168.1.1). Note that if you had changed the Linksys Router IP address to 192.168.2.1, then you will first need to reset it back to the default address 192.168.1.1.
If you call Embarq and request the new 660 DSL modem they will sent it to you at no cost. When you install the 660 DSL modem, you need to be sure that you power down the old 645 modem amd leave it off at least 1 hour before you plug in the 660 DSL modem. The Embarq server needs to "forget" the old 645 modem. After an hour, all you should have to do is plug in the new 660 modem and everything should start up properly.
Call Embarq Tech Support 1-877-646-3282 if you have problems setting up the modem. If the Internet Lights does not come on after a few moments - then call Embarq Tech Support.

Belkin Wireless N router/Embarq 660 modem/No internet

Make sure your physical connection is correct. From the modem, the ethernet cable should plugged in to the Internet/WAN port of the router. And your computer to port 1. Access the setup page of the router again and Enable the MAC Address Clone setting. Clone the MAC Address of your PC there then power cycle the router and modem. You should be all set.

Belkin 54G won't connect to the internet

Are you sure your modem is giving a WAN IP from your ISP? Try power-cycling your modem with your router unplugged then bring up your router next, if you havent tried that already... After that try connecting your modem directly to a PC and set your NIC card to DHCP and see if you get an IP address thats routable to the internet (i.e not a private IP)

Having Problem Acquiring IP Address

when using the range extender you have to make sure you set the SSID, channel & wireless key in the range extender the exact same as the router also it has to be in the same IP range so if the router IP address is 192.168.0.1 the range extender IP address has to change from 192.168.1.240 to 19.168.0.240. Hope that helps.
