Question about Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook

I bought a Dell Inspiron 9300 in July of 2005, a thick white vertical line appeared on the LCD two days ago. Given the fact that there are too many custumers that acquired this model in the past, and have had the same problem, I would like to know if there is any type of RECALL from dell to replace LCD's ?

this problem is very common with your model.

this problem somtimes occur due to malfunctioning of this display module.

dell takes the responsibility of all such manuacturing defects.

call the customer care and they will replace your display or motherboard whichever is required for free if you system is under warranty.

My Display has a permanent white 1" vertical line about 2" from left side on my monitor. Start menu is OK but when loading running anything it is always on the top and makes everythin hard to read,work...


dead lines can be an indicator of a failing LCD screen or inverter. I would take it to a certified repair shop. The inverter should be fairly cheap, the LCD probably not so much.

The cause is a failure of the LCD, and you can fix it by replacing the LCD.

Numerous, bright, multi-colored vertical lines on 9300 screen


Try taking out the Ram memory first one stick at a time. Sometimes when Ram goes bad or overheats, it first affects the display. If that is not the issue, here is the link to your service manual.

Unfortunately, there is no way to fix it.
This line called "Tab Separation" of LCD.
You'll need whole new LCD display.
Very very common problem.

if there is white line in the middle of the screen then first of all turn off the laptop and disconnect the ac adaptor and take out the battery and press and hold down the power button without the power cord and the battery for one minute and then turn on the computer with power cord and the battery and then check it out and still after that if u get it then check it out with the external monitor and if u get a good display in the external monitor then replace the lcd,but make sure that the screen is not broken from inside which u cannot touch and feel it.and if u get a good display in the external monitor then definately replace the lcd screen....good luck

Yellow vertical lines on the screen of my DELL inspiron 9300


The pixels are shot - common for lower priced LCD monitors. Once it starts, it will continue. Theres no inexpensive fix for it - time to retire the Compaq

Vertical lines in my laptop screen


Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

This is a known factory defect. Dell has a recall on it for Inspiron 9300 shipped between Nov 2004 and Nov 2006.

I just called Dell Tech Support (1-800-624-9896) to get this replaced and they are fixing it free of charge because I bought mine in December 2005. They are sending me a postage-paid box to ship back the laptop (remove the battery before sending it back to them, per instruction).

NOTE: Not all Tech Support people are well trained. The first time I called earlier today (Nov 21, 2007), the tech said (incorrectly) that only units shipped between Feb and March 06 are covered and denied that Dell would cover it for me. I was fuming mad.

Then I surfed around and found the link above which is Dell's official response. I called Tech Support back and got a better tech person. Moral of the story >> if you're certain your computer is covered per Dell's official statement, don't let the tech guys push you around. Email them the link from their own site if you have to. Better yet, just hang up and call back and hopefully you'll get someone who knows what he's talking about.

When you call Tech Support, have your Express Service code ready. They use this number to loop up whether or not your laptop is in the recall group. This number is at the bottom of your laptop on a long skinny oblong white tag.
