Question about Canon PowerShot A470 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Cannot see anything on the screen

My camera only turns on to view photos but not to take new ones and the solution to a similar question does not solve my problem, I have the added problem that the screen is almost black. I can hear the camera switch on, and see the light flicker but can only see some text when the camera is tilted and viewed at an angle. Replacing the batteries did not solve the problem either. It used to work fine till the batteries died a few days ago, but after recharging and reinstalling them, I started having this problem.

Ps.The batteries have a rating of 3800mAh, 1.2V, and are fully charged and are brand new.

Ensure that settings are OK, and check if the curtain is opening.
If everything else is OK, then all black picture means that lens assembly, wiring to CCD sensor, or main digital board is faulty. More likely one of the first two.
The fault must be fixed at a repair shop.

The technical term for this is 'broken'. Repair will cost more than replacement.

The view screen in the back oc camera has stopped working. It only works when reviewing photos taken. Can anything be done?

Think that you might have just accidentally pressed the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera. This manually turns the LCD display on and off to save batteries. You would then use the optical viewfinder in its place. To turn the screen back on, just press the DISP button one more time.

The camera turns on when the power button is pushed the start up screen comes up then the camera shuts off. Battery is fine and can view photos on card. Help!

If you mean you no longer see anything on the screen. Try hitting the picture taking button slightly and the rear view screen should come on again. This is a energy saving setting and can be changed in the menu setup.

Camera does not want to work

Sounds like you need new batteries. Put in good quality ones. If you are using rechargeable-remember that they do not last forever.

Mode dial doesn't work.

I have exactly the same problem as kae_ryn, it just happened and tried the same ways to "fix" it. Not dropped it yet but I might throw it at the wall lol. Shame though, it has been a very fantastic camera and has taken loads of great photos. Might get a new one similar as it fits into an expensive waterproof housing.

Camera won't turn on.

Your ccd imager is defective . You need to replace the ccd imager .Thats why screen turned red .
Connect your camera to computer and try viewing the photos .
Or use card reader to transfer photos to computer .

Replacing ccd will cost you around $150 .

New Camera, no picture on screen

This is normal for this camera. Think about it. The CMOS chip can't see through the mirror. After the shot is taken the electronic shutter exposes the CMOS chip and makes an image just like exposing film on a film type camera. Once you get used to it you may like it better. In outdoor or bright light situations it's difficult to view the LCD screen to frame the shot anyway.
