Question about Tomtom One XL GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I'm still waiting for valid GPS signal... 0 satellites...

Almost new tomtom one xl... has stopped picking up any signal (inside or out!). I've tried updating available upgrades, charging batteries, banging my head against it but nothing works. As it was a new device I didn't go far enough into the home site to make a back up. What to do? Anyone recommend how to 'reboot' the thing?

GPS is not working. It says waiting for a valid GPS signal. What can I do to fix this?

Usually, when it's waiting to get a valid GPS signal, it is "listening" (scanning) for satellite signals to establish your current location. If you are in the open outdoors, i.e. not inside a building or under extended covers, it should get the satellite signals within a minute or so.

Tomtom one XL

hi, it can take up to 15min to find the gps signal for the first time, also make sure you outside and away from any tall building then just wait and you should find it will come on.

it usually takes about 5min to find signal but the first time it can take up to 15min to find the signal.

you could also go through the menus on the tomtom and find the menu that says gps and click on this and see if it has found any signals from what i can remember it needs to pick up 3 satalites before it starts working properly.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

I just reloaded maps on my Tomtom but I am getting the message'' Waiting fora valid Gps signal regards charlie

That just means that your not in good range of the satellite that the TomTom uses. Think of it like cell phone reception. Try waiting a few minutes or going to a different area. I have the same problem because I live in a forested area, but when I leave and go into town, I'll get a signal.

Can't get any directions, just keeps on saying "waiting for valid GPS signal" been like this all day. Thanks. Ron

charge it up good for a few hours, preferably the usb cord to your computer, then power it on and take it outside in full view of the open sky and let it aquire the satellites (up to 30 minutes)

if that fails, let me know and we can try a reset and update.

Waiting for a valid gps signal

A couple solutions:

1) Make sure the TomTom can "see" the sky well... the GPS satellite waves are rather weak and easily blocked by trees, and anything not a window.

2) Hook up your TomTom to the computer (see details at www.tomtom.com or in the manual)

2b) Do a "sync" and download all updates. One of the updates is a small file that tells the TomTom where the satellites are located this week, and helps it sync up much faster. The longer time between uses, the longer it takes TomTom to find the satellites, and that can takes up to 2-5 minutes sometimes.

That can be frustrating with a car full of people waiting to get going and the driver doesn't want to drive without making sure the TomTom works and is giving valid directions.

Waiting for valid gps signal

The GPS needs at least 3 satellite signals to operate. You are probably in a bad reception area. Move around a bit and try again until you see a signal array of 3 or more!

My tomtom cant find any satellites and keeps saying waiting on valid gps signal......

check the port is set to 8
not sure if your model has GPS search wher it finds the port and vbaude automativcally, if it does use it and see if that fixes it if not
your battery is too low
you have a damaged SIIRF chip and that is expensive to repair

Waiting for valid gps signal

Go to TomTom Home on your computer and do a update for your unit. In the update list you should see a GPS quick fix which helps the TomTom's aquire a signal faster. Hope this helps.
