Have you had operating system problems?? the easiest way to retrive data from a hard drive is to purchase a USB harddrive external caddy for it, then you can fit your hardrive into it and plug it in USB to another computer and brows all the files. caddys are very cheep i picked up a 2.5" for £3 from my local computer shop.

There are people who can retrieve data from dead hard drives but it can be costly so get quotes first-- look in the phone book
other than that the data is long gone

Hello !
There are a number of tools you can use to do this operation, since the data may yet still be retrievable.
If you know what your file system on that HDD was (FAT32/NTFS) I would recommend you to get the program "GetDataBackNTFS" or "GetDataBackFAT32" (same program for 2 different file system organization).
If this fails, you can use Paragon to retrieve data. Just search on the internet for HDD data retrieval.
This also happened to me once with a faulty HDD and one partition entirely became RAW.
Note : GetDataBack will allow you for a free use to retrieve up to 1 GB of data.
All the best !

Would like to remove hd from hp dv 9205 to retrieve all my photos as the computer is dead . is there a way to use laptop HD in outside box to retrieve data ?

Of course! You just need an enclosure that works with SATA drives. The drive is accessible on the bottom of the laptop. You'll see a black plate with two circle looking icons. That' usually the hard drive. Just unscrew the screws and slide the hard drive out. There might be another set once you're inside, but it's easy you won't need a guide it's self-explanatory.

Hope this info helps!

My hp g50 laptop,.says insert reboot disk,.,ive heard the hard drive is dead,.,all i really need is the pictures off it,.,how?

The best way to attempt this is to set your drive as a slave drive and put it in another system. If the system can recognize the drive you may be able to retrieve some files. If its reads some of the files and you're able to attempt to retrieve them you can also try putting the drive in the freezer. This will help if there are loose parts on the arm and head. The cold will contract the metal and tighten it up for a few minutes so you can maybe read the drive. If the system can't see the drive the only way to recover anything is to send it off to a data recovery company. They're sometimes very expensive though but the only option is to rebuild the drive and fix it enough to try to get the files off of it. Not something you can do a home. Has to be in an special room.

Retrieving information on a reformatted USB drive

Unfortunately when its been formatted all the data stored gets wiped off.
You could try searching on the net for data retrieval programs and see if any of them can help you. Something like this

Good Luck
