Canon MP500 Printing Problem

My printer will not print black, but prints color without a problem. I followed the instructions for the nozzle check, cleaning, and then deep cleaning. The areas that are to print black, do not show anything. I've purchased new ink cartridges but it is still not printing.

My PIXMA MP500 printer will not print in black nor greyscale. It iwll print all other colors just fine. I have done a deep clean and the ink tank is full.

    yellow not coloured

My blue colour prints in streaks and is much paler than normal. Black, red and yellow are OK. I have used compatible ink tanks with no problem until about 6 months ago. (The MP510 is about 18 months old.) I have replaced two blue tanks (even when 40% full) and have just tried another full one. The problem remains. Then tried deep cleaning twice, with no improvement.

Is it possible to access the print heads themselves with a damp tissue or cloth? When all coours are working it's an excellent printer, and it would be a pity to buy another one just because one print head seems blocked.

    Any suggestions?

Black no longer prints. Other colors and small black are ok. Cleaning head only works a short time so tube that sucks ink from larger black cartridge and head during cleaning must be plugged and I want to clean it.

I had same problem today. Removed print head and bathed it in alcohol for half an hour. Then I removed the two screws underneath and used a syringe to squirt alcohol into the ports and clean. I noticed clumps of ink coming out (i guess some ports were blocked). I then dried the head and reinserted and reinstalled ink tanks. All looks good so far- black printing again and printed test patterns all look correct. Good luck.

Removing 2 screws underneath and clean it do the job!

I had this problem twice! The black pigment from number 5 cartridge did not print at all. First time, I just bought new printing head, thought it was end of unit life because I had it for a year of heavy use. Second unit last only 6 months so I decided to do some internet research.

And I Fix Ya!

  • PAIR CABLE IS VERY WEAK. It barely able to support the weight of the print head. After remove 2 screws, DO NOT pull the white part too hard and DO NOT leave it hanging. (I tried to clean my old unit first and broke it.... well, it was already broken. Second attempt, second unit fixed!)cb45040.jpg

It is likely that one or more of your colors are not printing. You can find out which one by going to the maintenance tab in the printer properties for your printer, and choosing the `nozzle check'. This prints out a pattern, and shows you each nozzle in the printhead. Make sure you have good ink for the problem color. In the same maintenance area, there is a cleaning utility.
I do not recommend deep cleaning, it wastes a lot of ink. If you don't see improvement after each cleaning, the printhead is most likely clogged. You can attempt to wash it out, running the nozzles under warm water, and allowing it to dry for a day. Don't use air or any chemicals, and don't touch the contacts or nozzles.
Sometimes it will recover, it is more likely it won't. A new printhead might be in order.

My Canon Pixma MP500 is printing only black.

Hey, Sound like something is wrong with the color cartridge. Replace the color one and try again. If that fails you might have to replace the printer as it doesn't sound like the problem is software related.

IP1000 cannot print black ink

This is what worked (so far) with my Dell1.gif AIO A940 printer1.gif that wouldn't print black ink.

It worked for awhile when I chose photo/glossy paper, but then it quit printing again (see below).

I got it to print, again, by putting SEVERAL papers in the feeder (instead of just 1) - there is a sensor that is supposed to automatically detect paper type, and it might not be working right, especially with one or only a couple of sheets.
