When I am in Yahoo IM mode suddenly the screen goes black and the phone is off. No warning, just a black screen. I have to wait a moment, turn on reboot and sign in again.

restart tapping the F8 key (on keyboard) when a black screen with words / options appears ..then use your up and down arrow keys to move selection down to boot in safe mode with networking support..hit enter on keyboard / then windows will boot into safe mode with networking.. then you will need to download MalwareBytes https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/ install and scan for Malware. clean & restart computer
you can try Fn + F8 and see if the display was toggled for external (Wait about 15 seconds before pressing a 2nd time) that is the keystroke from (LCD, External, LCD and External)
If no go, see if your system keeps video displayed in the safe mode (F8 at boot, select Safe mode from the boot menu)
you can also run diags on the LCD (Power button + D) or PSA diagnostics and see if the video stays on out of the operating system (Power +Fn)
Hold down the power button until the laptop turns off. Wait 5 seconds and turn it on again. Do you see the slash screen as it powers up? Hopefully it will boot into the OS. If it's black the whole time, the video card may be dead. But if you do see a splash screen and it goes black after booting into the OS, you may have caught an infection. Try to boot into safe mode w/ networking and downloading scans to remove a possible infection. I use 3 scanners to remove infections. If the 3 do not clear it, the OS is hosed and needs to be wiped and reloaded. 3 scans: Combofix, SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes. Good luck.
It seems the Explorer.exe is not running properly or isn't loading. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete (when it shows nothing on the screen) on the keyboard, the Task Manger will pop up, click "File" and select "New Task (Run)" and type in "explorer.exe" (without quotes), wait for few seconds, it should open up all the features properly, if this fails, go into Safe Mode and try again. To go into Safe Mode, restart the computer and keep tapping the F8 button on the keyboard until you see the Advanced Boot Options with Safe Mode as one of the options. Select Safe Mode using the arrow keys on the keyboard and press enter, you will see white texts in the black screen, wait until you see a warning to confirm whether you want to boot into Safe Mode or not, give a positive input and proceed forward, once windows is loaded, you better run a full system virus scan or I would also recommend System Restore.
start off with the pc off then turn it on wait till the bios etc splash screen show past the hit del or f2 to goi to setup then after that press f8 repeatedly until it shows some sort of list this is the alternate boot up just scroll down to ENABLE VGA MODE after selecting that it will boot up with your screen.. hope that works
It's possible that Windows got corrupted if you can enter the Setup
page. Will you also try to boot up on Safe by pressing F8 during boot
up. If Windows loads up on Safe mode, you may try System restore. If not, run a repair using the recovery disc of windows so you can recover all your files. If none of these resolved the issue, you have to do clean installation using the CD.
hold down the home screen button and button at the same time, it will perform a reset. wait until the screen goes black and you see the white apple logo to reappear. when you see the logo let go and it should be fine.
You can press F8 repeatedly while booting to get the Boot options screen. It should contain a VGA Mode - this will boot your regular desktop with a lower resolution. Once in windows adjust the screen resolution to one that your Monitor supports.
Right click the desktop anywhere. Choose properties. Go to the right most tab "settings". Slide the screen resolution option until its where you want it. Click Apply. Do Not Hit any keys on the keyboard. Wait until it finishes changing resolution than click Ok. Close the Window.
If your screen goes black during this waiting 30 seconds should automatically revert it to the previous settings.
Something similar happened to me. Unfortunately it could not be repaired. I had to buy another phone and now that phone does not want to turn on. It is on "local mode". Whatever that means... The new phone is also a Nokia. I don't think will buy Nokia again.
