My 2005 VW Passat 1.9 TDi starts and then cuts out and display reads "immobiliser activated" then "workshop manual" any suggestions as to what the problem and how is it fixed without a main dealer getting involved??
There may not be any other way to fix it except to replace your instrument panel. That's where your immobilizer is located. Or you could try this:
Try cold-booting the car. Remove both battery cables from the battery.
Short the battery cables together (away from the battery) for about 15
seconds. Reconnect the battery. No guarantees - I found this info at tdiclub.com.
My car has same problem immobilizer locks engine a vw passat 2001 model, cold booting has worked twice so far for me.thanx.

I've got a 2005 vw passat estate tdi. I've had a parasitic battery drain for weeks. I've put the car in series through a multimeter, but the reading is very erratic, it varies from .30 up to .90 amperes. The alternator is charging well, and there is no obvious interior lights on etc. Are passats notorious for alarms draining the battery, it is a factory alarm?
Any ideas?
