Check in the BIOS setting. Check that the harddisk is showing or not. If not then check your hard disk power cable and tight it or replug it. I hope this will solve your problem.

MOST IMPORTANT - IF you are trying to recover data, and you EVER get the hard drive working on a different computer, IMMEDIATELY BACK UP THE AVAILABLE DATA! don't assume you'll be able to simply reboot the computer and expect the broken hard drive to still work, it may never work again after that once chance to save your data!

- - - that said - - -

The hard drive cannot be made reliable again, but you may be able to save your data.

If the had drive is still spinning, and not clicking a few times and stopping spinning, but it won't boot into your operating system you can probably recover the data off of it. You'll have to find another computer to put the hard drive into and if that computer recognizes the hard drive you can just take the data off. If the computer recognizes the drive as unformatted you'll probably have to use a utility like getdataback from .

If the test computer locks up or won't boot with your broken drive installed you can try and external enclosure and see if it is recognized and works then.

If the hard drive is NOT recognized by a different computer OR if it is clicking a few times and then stopping spinning OR if it's not spinning at all, then your going to have to send it off someplace to have parts replaced or the platters removed, this is expensive and you'll only want to do it if the data is irreplaceable, you'll be paying alot to get it back.

There are several unorthodox recovery methods, like tapping the hard drive on a hard surface, swapping platters yourself, freezing the hard drive, or replacing the controller that I'm not going to cover but feel free to search for more information on the online. Most importantly once a hard drive has failed and won't boot from the operating system please don't just reformat it and use it again if you are able to, it will fail again and then you'll have to go through recovering data again in a few months, it's not worth it, just buy a new hard drive.

Good luck!

If the hard-drive still spins then you can attempt a data recovery on it using a program like Easy Recovery Pro. Please note that this will require another computer or another hard-drive with an OS installed on it.

If that doesn't recover the data there are specialty data recovery sites you can pay to have them back up your data (usually involving them switching out the platters of your drive in a clean room) but that is very expensive.

Most drives come with a 3-5 year warranty so I recommend sending back the drive once you recover the data off it.

When i installed hard drive and set the jumper on primary master it dint show up and in bios the txt is showing like that primary master drive 0 (not installed)

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test or replace all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard)) drive make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
you could run the check disk utility

click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will scan for and attempt to repair any bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive then defragment your hard drive

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

(note after you have loaded the operating system you must go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive)

Primary master drive st98823a is about to fail(SMART THRESHOLD EXCEEDED) what should i do

Replace it. If it is still working, Aluratek makes a disk duplicator that works pretty well, it can clone the drive. We replace drives preventatively, these days. Get it out while it is working and it is one tenth of the work.

I formatted my hd making it slave in other system: now i m placing it back on my system then it is saying Primary IDE masterNONE; Primary IDE Slave SP0822N Then comes NTLDR MISSING

> formatted my HD

This deleted 99% of the files on the disk-drive.

> Primary IDE Master: NONE
> Primary IDE Slave: SP0822N

Good. Your motherboard has detected ONE disk-drive.

Do you have just one connected disk-drive on your PRIMARY channel, or do you have two connected disk-drives (via the 2 connectors on the one ribbon-cable on the PRIMARY channel) ?

If you have two drives connected via one ribbon-cable, you MUST set the 'master/slave/cable-select' jumpers on BOTH disk-drives, to identify which of the two will be the 'master' and which will be the 'slave'.

Also, check that the 'second' disk-drive is getting electrical power.

Like I said, you deleted 99% of the files, including the 'NTLDR' file.
Your computer is trying to "boot" from the 1% of the files that still exist on the disk-drive, but cannot find the now-deleted file.
Perfectly normal, given that you have formatted the disk.

Cloned hard drive "C" (WD 40GB) to A Deskstar 8oGB using external enclosure. When I remove the old drive and install new drive and boot up I get Msg drive 0 not found retry or enter setup. If I enter setup...

there are few thing you ahve to keep in mind

there are two type of hard disk
1. IDE

As per your hdd capacity it should of IDE type.

Now there are two IDE slots on motherboard. One is Primary and other is Secondary

You can fix two hdd with one IDE Slot that mean you can fix up upto faour IDE hdd at a time

Now again there are Primary master and Primary Slave

Secondary Master and Secondary Slave

Now You have to examine what was the location of previous hdd
1 Primary Master
2 Primary Slave
3 Secondary Master
4 Secondary Slave.

Now you have to make a HDD master or Slave.

just in between data cable connector and power cable connector there is a jumper. that specify the master or slave. do reply me if it works well thanks

Sata HDD set in primary master in Bios

Try considering these:

1. DOS disk doesn't recognize SATA, that's the truth
2. You're going to have a problem if you install OS in your computer (solution: do not select SATA in HDD type but rather IDE)
3. For your SATA HDD to become primary (boot first) try to select your SATA HDD as devic first to boot..

American Megatrends is telling us our Pri Master Hard disk: S.M.A.R.T. is bad, backup and replace.

By questions and answers from above, is this telling us to replace hard drive?
