SOURCE: FITTING DETAILS FOR MAKITA PLANER BLADES

It depends on the planer blade set that you are using. If you are using the the 2 sided blades there is a guage that goes with it to set the blade depth before installing. I would strongly recommend that you go to Makitatools.com and type in your model number and download a copy of the owners manual for specific instructions. Let me know if you have any problems finding them

How do I set planer blades on a craftsman bench planer

I usually rest a straight edge, flat hardwood across the drum.

Rotate the drum by hand/pencil tip, till the blade is top dead center..
It should lift the hardwood 1mm.
Tighten the fixings.

Rotate and repeat for remaining blades.

How to fit bosch PHO 15-82 planer blades

  1. Unplug from mains and turn planer upside down.
  2. Using Allen key (stored in heel of planer) slacken off the 2 sets of 3 screws that clamp the blade in place. One 360 degree turn should be enough
  3. Use piece of wood or flat screwdriver blade to slide old blade out the side of the blade track.
  4. Rake any dirt out of the blade track with screwdriver blade.
  5. Slide in new blades, check it is correctly centred and tighten screws. Take care not to over-tighten.
  6. Repeat with second blade.
  7. Carefully rotate blade carrier by hand checking that blades are parallel to the sole of the plane.
  8. If blades are out of true you will need to remove them again, take off the blade clamping plates and adjust the blade locating plate, which is held in place by 2 further Allen screws.
