Question about Danby DAC5020 Air Conditioner

Danby DAC5020 Air Conditioner fan works but not compressor

5 year old Danby Window Air Conditioner. I plugged in the unit after storing it for 2 years. The fan works on all 3 speeds, but when I turn it to 'Cool' the compressor does not kick in, it just continues to blow air. Is it a fixable problem or is it time to toss the unit?

It could be as simple as being low on refrigerant. Depends on how expensive the unit is if its worth recharging and how big the unit is. Some small units will need to have a recharge point fitted which cost more of course.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the unit, just that you have a bunch of bugs... is there a light near by that attracts bugs to it at night??

no fuse or reset just for the compressor. Since the fan is working only, you will have to open up the unit and see what you have. Possible causes: 1. bad thermostat
2. a wire burned off
3. bad capacitor
4. low on refrigerant
5. bad compressor

UNIT SHUTS DOWN AS SOON AS COMPRESSOR KICKS IN

Hi fdisc I feel quite sure your compressor is going straight to ground you need to get someone to check the comp, for its resistance and he or she will soon let you know for sure.

The fan alone on an A/C unit draws alot less amps than a fan and compressor. I would guess that your fan and compressor draw around 15 amps when bnoth are on. The unit should be on its own breaker or fuse (whichever you have. As things get old, like fans and compressors, they wear out and will draw more amps.
I see you have 2 choices,:
1) place the A/C on its own circuit with nothing else on it. This may buy you some time until you can replace the unit.

2) Buy a new A/C as the newer units are more energy efficient, and last longer.

No A/C

It seems that that the overload of compressor is tripping on and off, either your compressor overload is defective or the compressor itself

Should i open or close

Close the vent for maximum cooling. When you open the vent it opens a panel to the outside air and the unit cools less efficiently.
