You should send the laptop back for replacement if it's under warranty. Bad touchpads seem to be pretty common nowadays, on my HP DV5 which is 3 weeks old it has failed on the 4th day. It does not bother me though, as i have bought a mini USB mouse for $5 and it is much better than the touchpad anyway.

If you'd ask me, i'd say just buy an USB mouse, it's much more practical.

Update: I have repaired my touchpad. It was the heat that made it stopped working, but the actual fault was caused by something else:

The ribbon cable connecting the touchpad to the motherboard was bent too sharply at the factory and it broke. Since it was long enough, I used an X-Acto knife to cut the broken part off, and saved the blue plastic tab. I placed a thick plastic sheet over the touchpad area so i don't scratch it, laid the ribbon cable on it and with 180 grit sandpaper slowly grinded at the plastic to get the wires exposed. When i got enough length of wire i plugged the cable back into the connector and used the original plastic tab to hold it in place. It worked. I then put a drop of glue on the connector and put the laptop back together.

Only attempt this if you're brave enough, have very good eyesight and lots of patience.

My touchpad won't work on a compaq presario CO50, button is on, but on working?

Try a restart if that doesn't work, connect a usb mouse and go to the device manager and see if the drivers for the touchpad are installed.
If they aren't, go to and input your model number into the search box, there will be a place to download the touchpad drivers. Install those and your touchpad should be working.

A shortcut or way to disable touchpad preasario m2000

You could disable it in Device Manager, but that has the downside of leaving you in a lurch if you are ever without your external mouse.

The latest drivers from Synaptics include a feature called "HandCheck" that will guard against unintentional movement when you are typing and your palm or other broad part of the hand is in contact with the surface. (see the link for Features to get a full description).

But I saved the best for last. A little hotkey utility that does EXACTLY what you want:

There's a free trial, but it'll cost you $4.95 if you want to keep on using it.

Good Luck!

Touchpad on Gateway Notebook

Try reinstaling the touchpad's drivers!

If does not work, check if it has been disabled or not (in "device manager" ) If so, enable it , and it should work.
