Need both laptop and monitor on at same time.

Hey Roger,
Below is information that should help you with trying to get monitor and notebook screen to work.
First make sure your laptop is equipped to be able to connect a secondary display, there should be a port for connecting a standard monitor cable on the back.
Connect your secondary monitor and reboot the laptop, the system bios should recognize that a second monitor has been added.
Then right click on your desktop and bring up the display properties dialog box.
Select "settings"
Your laptop should be identified as monitor 1 and you should also be able to see the secondary monitor as monitor 2.
Click on the secondary monitor and check the box that says "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor".
Set your screen resolution and color quality for the second monitor and click apply.
Directing icons and browser windows over to the other monitor is just a matter of drag and drop.

Thank You,

Why sound but no picture?

If you say that you have nothing on screen but you hear the windows sound when you stat ..it is a display issue ..probably the connection cable is to blame or the inverter went bad .(for the display )..try the secondary vga monitor and use a regular monitor and see if it works ok ..if it does it is the display to blame ..and like I said either diplay inverter or the display itself ..and it can be changed in both cases..or ..it may be just the connecter cable ..
If you have no image on secondary monitor..try to press fn =f4 or f5 or f7 ..(usually it indicates the f key for the enabling of the monitor ) but it is one of these ..If the secondary monitor shows no signal and no matter what you try it has no picture..it means the video card is out of functions and need to be changed..

Connection to external monitor stopped working

Did you go to the display properties screen and check the settings of the second monitor connection. You must turn it on, and have it set to a low enough resolution for the monitor to work. If it shows the second monitor, Click Identify and it will put a number on the laptop screen. Which ever number doesn't show up is the external monitor. Select it and set the resolution down by grabbing the scroll bar and drag it to the left. Start at 800x600 or so and apply changes. If the monitor doesn't come on, check to see if the monitor is on.

I am trying to connect my laptop to the Polaroid LCD TV, as i would like to use the TV monitor as a computer monitor (my laptop monitor is broken). So I connect the correct wire to correct places, however...

The simple patch that I found (same problem) was to start by using any old monitor that I could borrow to set up my Dell Laptop.
After getting the Laptop booted on a regular monitor I right clicked on the desktop and went to properties then to the settings tab.
Here I found the dual monitor settings (#2 will usually be dis-abled by default.)
Click on #2 monitor and set the resolution to the lowest number (800 x 600 works well)
Then I clicked on "make this monitor my primary monitor"
As soon as I clicked apply the PC Windows screen appeared on the Polaroid TV screen

Earlier I had set the secondary monitor as "extend this screen to this monitor"
This also worked but I had to "drag the current screen to the right all the way off the
"borrowed monitor" until it appeared on the TV screen. The mouse pointer will be there also.
At first it took a little getting used to but in a few minutes I was up and running.
Hope this helps your situation
