These products are fragile and prone to failures of many kinds due their internal complexity.

If it is still under warranty you should have it repaired by their authorized facility.

It may reset and start working again. Unplug the power adapter and remove the batteries for a period of at least 30 minutes; then try it again.

If the reset does not help it means there is a mechanical or electronic failure. There are many possibilities and it is impossible to know without doing some testing of the unit by skilled hands. The usual or most common problem when these symptoms occur is a weak or dead laser diode (which is mounted inside the optical pickup assembly). Since the laser cannot read the data on the disc the servo mechanism thinks there is no disk in the unit and shuts down the drive motor.

Replacing the laser diode is very expensive and it requires the entire optical pickup to be replaced and realigned. And, you may have to wait several days for the replacement parts and repair. It is NOT something you can do at home. Cost will be in the range of $150; maybe less if you can get a shop that knows the Polaroid models and has done one before.

since this unit is less than $200 new, it may not be a wise investment for repair.

Hope i helped you.

My screen is scrambled but i still have audio. one day it is working fine and the next it is not. is there something i need to adjust or has the screen gone bad?

Sounds like the LCD screen has gone faulty, often the flexi connection on these things give up which would result in the same problem, I presume it has a hinged lid with the screen in the lid? If so unless you can change the screen or your willing to pay someone else to do it for you, I suspect its fairly fatal.

Player comes on but will not play, on the screen it has loading disk and then goes to no disk

That means the disk is corrupted. Please make sure that data is burnt properly to the disk.

I've got the same problem, I turn my player on it's side until it reads the disc. more of a band-aid solution.

Broken Door: Polaroid PDM-0711

You probably cant replace the door because usually they produce a small run of these players and then create a new model and discontinue the old one very quickly. My suggestion is to look if there is a small button around the area the tab would normally go to when you close the door. If you can see this button try to find someting that would keep it pressed down. This tricks the player into thinking that the door is closed. WARNING: This button also activates the laser reading unit so you must have a dvd loaded before you press the button so you dont accidently look straight into the laser unit. IF YOU LOOK INTO THE LASER YOU CAN CAUSE PERMANENT EYE DAMAGE OR EVEN BLINDNESS.
