It depends on what I/O is available on your PC. If it has an analog input (typically a stereo 3.5.mm connector), you can connect that to the mixer's Tape Out connections (cable needs 2 RCA plugs on one end, 1 3.5mm stereo plug on the other).
If the PC only has USB or Firewire connections, you need a computer interface. Something like an M-Audio M-Track or PreSonus AudioBox USB. Connect from the mixer Tape Out to the line inputs on the interface. Connect USB (or Firewire) from the interface to the PC.
If you want to avoid an A/V receiver, connect the PC speakers directly to the DVD player.
Connecting a computer to the projector Connect the projector to a computer using a VGA cable (included with the projector). In addition, you can connect an audio cable from the computer to the projector if you with to use the internal speaker of the projector. An optional USB cable connection is also available. 1 - VGA cable connection 2 - Optional audio cable connection 3 - Optional USB cable connection
A letter from Altec:
E-mail from Altec Lansing explaining how to use the ACS 495 speakers with Windows XP and Vista:
"These speakers require no special drivers or software to work properly.
At the current time we do not have AMS software or an USB audiodevice driver compatible with Windows XP or Vista. There are no plans at this time to develop this software.
Your speakers will work with Windows XP & Vista. Just make sure you use the audio cable from the back of the subwoofer to the audio or sound out port of your sound card. Do not use the USB cable.
Sound does not come through the USB port The USB cable just allows you to use the AMS software. This software gives you some control over some of the sound features. The same functionality of the AMS software can be gotten by using the buttons on the speakers and the volume control software that comes with your Windows system. If you double click the speaker icon from the system tray, that will open this software up.
With the USB connector removed or the computer turned off, STEREO or PRO LOGIC modes can be selected by depressing and holding the center control down for approximately three seconds. The mode selected will be indicated by the color of the LED on the front right speaker. When the light glows yellow it is in the STEREO mode. When the light is green it is in the PRO LOGIC mode."
Either way you should be fine. Notebooks have the proper connectors to hook up an external speaker system to them. Just hook up the 1/8" connector with the green end to the green 1/8" female audio port and you're set to go.
