Question about Sony Cell Phones
First of all, try cleaning the SIM contacts and using a different SIM - one cause of that message is excessive retries when reading the SIM data.
If it's not that, then try doing a firmware update on the phone - the easiest way of doing this is to use the SE update service - you just need the standard USB cable (DCU-60) that comes with the phone - but note that doing this will erase all the information you have on your phone, so back it up first.
The update service applicaiton can be downloaded here:

a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
