Hi if the cord fits the kettle and the television then great, They both run off the same electricity current meaning the electricity won't harm television or cord... Smart kid :)
go into settings and click on the recieving button and then click on scanning for channels, make sure it says DIGITAL signals. ...this search could take a 5-10 minutes
The Antenna may be in a weak signal area heres a quick cheap fix Get a Freeview Box and connect it via SCART LEAD to your tv, if the Box picks up a good signal then your tuner may be very weak.. You may want to try a BOOSTER to the TV first, and if that fails go with an external freeview. My neighbor has a 42 and the freeview box WITHOUT an antenna attached resolves all the channels..so give that a try. I have a goodmans too with a slow tuner and I have to retune it sometimes even though it gets a good signal from the antenna. I will be getting an external tuner freeveiw box.
I don't know what make of TV you have but some manufacturers have two tuners at the rear of the TV. One for terrestrial signal & one for digital signal. If this is the case put the aerial into the digital input & try retuning. If this does not work then if you could provide the details of you TV eg. make & model, then I will try to help you further.
You need to go into the menu and set the "av-2 out put" to DTV, that should solve the problem, remembering to connect the "in" scart on the recorder to AV-2 on the tv.If there is only 1 scart on the recorder it will be a 2 way connection, sending and recieving a signal.
You have a really nice TV, you have a built in ASTC tuner(digital).
If you want to recieve OTA(over the air) signals, all ypu will need is an antenna.
