Question about Maytag Washing Machines
If this is a toploader, the usual cause is an overload. when there is an article of clothing that isn't all the way below the top rim of the inner tub, and when the machine hits the spin cycle, that piece of clothing can actually pop that fill tube out of its place in the top of the outer drum... the next time the machine goes to refill, it makes a royal mess all over the floor.
If the fill tube flange is not damaged (just knocked out) you can reinstall it. but if it's cut at all, replace it...
The out of balance could have been from overfilling as well.
